If you'd told me when I was 15, that at University I would be the owner of a Yellow Toyota MR2 T-bar, I would probably have eaten your hat and sent you back to the loony bin. But hey, it happened. Very much against the mothers' wishes, I purchased this little beauty a few months ago.
As an automotive design student, I wanted something a bit interesting. As everyone around me seemed to be buying MK1 MX5s, i tried a couple out and just didn't find myself that head over heels. After a particular test drive, I was left sweaty, wind beaten, and with a dead arm from lifting the roof up. The only other option seemed to be the MR2. I knew I wanted a standard car. No messing, no tuning, no bodykits. Turns out this isn't too hard an ask, but rust was an issue for the cars I was finding.
Then one day, this car came up on autotrader. It was way out of my £1000 budget, but after seeing it sitting on the sellers driveway, I knew I had to have it. It was leagues nicer than the previous cars I'd viewed. And it was yellow. BRIGHT YELLOW. Tick that life dream off the list.
Unfortunately the seller was on holiday at the time, so I couldn't buy it or test it out mechanically. A week or two later, I was heading to Goodwood in the family Corsa. The MR2 just happened to be on the way. So headed there, took it on a test drive, fell in love, handed over nigh on all of my money, and off we went. 200 miles later, I was grinning ear to ear. (And also sh*tting myself incase it conked out).
Since purchase, it's reeled off trips to Southampton, Kent, and Newcastle via the lakes. I couldn't be happier with my new tonic. Here are a few pics.

Bit of an update. The car has been up and down the country for the last year, putting on a few thousand miles. It has been absolutely faultless - the only issue being some 13 year old girls pulling off a wing mirror for fun - I just can not compute this. Thugs at 13. I managed to (barefoot) chase down and just about detain a couple of them and the police are trying to sort me some compensation but I somehow doubt the kids mum will be paying.
In other news I've got myself a degree in automotive design from Coventry University, and will be starting my first job at a small firm in Somerset
I'm planning on keeping the MR2, but I need something a bit more suited to motorway journeys as a companion. Any thoughts? I have up to 4k, I'd love to have another semi-classic (or at least something slightly cool), but in reality a focus or astra will do the job.
So far I've driven and ruled out:
-e36 328 coupe auto (can't fit my feet in the footwell?)
-mini cooper (too cramped)
-toyota celica 140 (just that bit underpowered, will have to try the 190)
Here's a couple more pics of the car. It's currently sitting on the white Enkeis, I just really need to get them painted silver. The colour combination is making me sick at the moment.
