1987 Alfa Romeo 75
Discussion
Hello,
Thought I would put up a readers thread on my new 75 which I collected last weekend.
I originally was not after this car as I wanted a 155 Q4, I phoned up one of the specialist's that I use and apart from a Q4 that's up for around 10k, didn't know of any others, he then offered me his 75 which had been sitting in his workshop for close to 6 years because since having kiddies, just can't justify using her. I at 1st said no but I went down there the next day for him to look over my other Alfa and found myself looking round it.
We spoke about it for a while and I said I would think about it, cue a week later I thought f
k it, it's a rare car, has enough poke to be fun and would make a great project.
All that was around 6 weeks ago, she finally got her MOT last Thursday and the following day, I was down at his with the cash collecting her
This 75 is a little different in being a left hand drive example as this particular model was never sold on these shores, she's actually a 75 i.e. turbo which translates into an old school 1.8 turbo, with the engine up front, gearbox at the back driving the rear wheels. And I love it, I just want to drive her as much as possible at the moment and I will be attending the next PH Sunday Service at Silverstone in her.

As you can see, she needs quite a bit of work hence why I will be restoring her bit by bit, the interior will be done in alacantara/cloth, the exterior will be repainted and the engine bay tided up.
She's already been tweaked here and there already, hence the side exit exhaust, the lowering on Koni's and the wider tyres than standard which are actually from an Alfa SZ and are worth a fortune on there own as it is.

Great choice. Everyone has their "cars that got away" ans mine was a red 1992 75 3.0 Veloce. I bought a 33 Permanent 4 instead but should have picked up the 75. Enjoy. Tempted to go hunting for an SZ once my GQV is paid for.
I must admit I still look at the classified ads for a nice 3-litreLike the idea of this 1.8t though
Ron Simons always reckoned the 4-pots handled a bit sweeter
Cheers guys, I've known this particular 75 for over 7 years now so I know how she's been looked after and treated which is always a bonus!!
It's funny though as I never liked these but over time I've warmed to them, I very nearly bought a lovely 3.0 Veloce lady year, but ended up buying a 155 1.8 TS which I enjoyed
She's a bit rough around the edges but will look great once sorted, plus she's got no rust what so ever!!!
Here are the photos of the exhaust too, taken by the previous owner.

Last one by me.

The sound she makes is actually rather nice I think, you get a faint turbo whistle from when it spools up then a huge rush from the exhaust as you hit peak boost, then once you lift off coming to a junction you get just loads of pop and crackles from the exhaust, you can get around that though by rev matching if you wish.

The day after I collected her, I decided to give her a clean, in fact her 1st wash in 6 years!!! As you can see, the paint is filthy and took most the day to correct it all.
