Agreed, that unsupported hoop is just about acceptable on a road car, but for track I'd be wanting bracing galore! You only live once.........

I think the Renault 5 filter is a very slightly different thread. I've ordered a small one ford fords that will fit perfectly. It will get regular changes so should work out fine.
Strange that, as used to use them in my Zetec Westfield, but make sure you have a non return valve in whatever you use.Topbox said:
Finally got a bit of time to set to work on the car.
Changed the cambelt and tensioner.
New spark plugs installed.
Sprayed the grill gloss black.
Installed a bit of edge piping.
Pulled the old reflectors off the back for replacement.
I took the mirrors off for painting and broke one! So ordered some new ones.
The headlamps are in pieces ready to plastidip so we'll see how that turns out.
Just waiting for plastidip and a few service items to finish the service and carry on painting.

I've given the fuel tank the full POR15 treatment: wire brushed, cleaned and degreased, cleaned with acid then 2 coats of por15 paint. I'm impressed with the finish. It looks very tough. I'd be surprised if it rusts anytime soon.
I've started to scrub the back end of the chassis. It's coming up better than I thought. A bit of light surface rust and loads of grime!
Going to get the steam cleaner out tomorrow and decide what I'm going to paint it all in.
Also ordered a new fuel filter and some braided fuel hose to connect the tank back up to the pump.

Had the wire brushes out, white spirit, degreaser, detergent, steam cleaner and hose pipe.
Back end is now pretty clean. Took me about 8 hours in total I reckon.
I also put the light surrounds on the back after gloss black paint and took the exhaust hanger off for painting. I couldn't resist taking the roll bar off to paint gloss black. Tiger Racing are out of stock of rear half cages (about 8 weeks until they get more) so I'm going to paint it black while I wait for the new parts.
I've kind of gone for the easy option with paint. I'm going to wet and dry sand everything I can get to then use this lot:

After many hours working on the back end I finally finished painting and plumbed the fuel tank back in with a new filter and hose.
The braided hose I ordered was a pain in the ass to work with so that went in the bin.
These are the before and after shots. A lot of the work was on the chassis and rear axle so the pictures don't really do it justice.
I also painted the rear roll bar (even though I plan on changing it soonish).
Anyway, I had noticed a bit of fuel seepage under the bonnet with the fuel line is connected to hose. I think by sorting out the filter and hose at the back the fuel pressure has increased as the leak has grown and the car looks to be over fuelling :-(
I don't have a fuel regulator installed so I'm not sure how the car was running so well in the past!
I've just ordered one of these:
To get the pressure sorted and 3 metres of fuel hose so I can cure the leak at the front then all should be well again.
All that'll be left then is the rear tub needs to go back on and it should be drivable!

It took me a while to strip out all of the old fuel line but my OCD wouldn't allow. Me to leave it.
