It is an awesome car. I actually never drove one until after I bought it, but as it came from a family member I had no worries about the car's history and it's a beemer so I knew it would go well. good luck with it. First impressions are very good. It sounds nice although I am tempted to do an intake mod of some sort and it certainly goes like the clappers - 2nd gear is too much for the roads in their current state. Having owned an e46 with the regular M54 3l lump I am quite shocked at how different the M motor is - it really pulls and that is coming from a 4.4l V8 645.
Probably the thing which took me most by surprise is how quick the steering rack is though - it is hyper sensitive.
I lusted for a long time (and still do) after a TVR Tuscan. I know the TVR boys will tell me the Tuscan's a whole different proposition and I agree to some extent, but at the present time I don't have the finances to keep aside "just in case".
She won't be wearing the number plate for long though... not mine!

I went from a 645 to this, so feel free to ask whatever you like!They are truly a world apart. In reality the 645 is probably just as quick in a straight line, but the M certainly feels faster - particularly as the 645 had an auto box and it always took a minute to work out what you wanted when you put your boot down (I found manual mode in the 645 just annoying). The M also sounds a lot better and doesn't feel as torque-lite as I was expecting it to.
The ride of the 6 is much better, in terms of comfort, but that is to be expected. The Zed is very, very firm - perhaps a little too firm for UK roads but I believe it'll be at home on tour in Europe. The boot in the six is cavernous, but the Zed's is much better than, say, a 911. On country roads the six series never felt like much fun on account of its size - the Z4 being much more compact feels a little more at home. I can also see most of the Zed's bonnet - which I couldn't in the six.
The Z4 also feels like a very, very special place to be. The view out is fantastic, the steering rack feels Ferrari-sensitive and I think it is a really properly good looking car.
Overall I am very impressed so far. I've no doubt that an M3 is a much more practical proposition, but the Zed does just feel nice.

ohhhhh its a toughy...... roadster with the right bits and the roof down looks bloody good...... with the hardtop on with certain mods the roadster looks bloody awesome imo... The coupe is beautiful from every view, something the roadster can't quite match.I might have actually gone for the roadster myself, but as I knew this car and it was drop-dead gorgeous I thought I would give it a go.

Compared with the M54 in my 330, the S54 is an animal. I love it and the noise is superb, even with a totally stock setup.

Couldn't agree more. Whenever a Vantage/XKR/DB9/911/M3 etc... goes past me I don't tend to give them a second glance, these always got a double take from me.Beedub said:

The nonsense of dealing with the DVLA, combined with the slowness of Christmas post means the private plate is still on, but hopefully for not much longer.
