Bit of a realisation of a kids dream this. Wanted one since I was about 10! A 3L coupe in Dakar.

I previously had a CLK55 which was a fantastic car, quick and comfortably and lovely to commute in but was lucky enough to be given a 2001 Focus zetec so decided to use that to commute in and get something a bit more fun and 'special' for the weekends and sunny days.

After advertising the CLK for a few weeks with little interest I had an interesting email from a nice guy in Oxford. He wanted to do a straight swap. My CLK55 for his M3 Cabrio in Fern green. Mine was a 2000 on 123k, his was a 98 on 59k. Seeing as I was after either an E36 or an E39 it was perfect for me. Then I did an HPI and found it was a CAT C in 2000. Had a long hard think and wrote a few texts saying I wasn't interested but kept going back to the photo's. It really did look immaculate and it had been inspected by Munich legends. In March it'd had a new vanos unit and insp II so.....how bad could it be?!?

Well I decided to go and see it, low and behold, it was just as perfect as it looked in the pictures. I couldn't fault it. It drove brilliantly as you would expect for such a low miler. It feels very tight and responsive. I've had a few E36's (although not M) and this by far feels the best. Its got some scuttle shake but that adds to the experience right??

I'm totally smitten with it, its fantastic. I cannot wait to get back in it after a few days in the focus. I'm trying to keep the mileage down but its very hard when choosing keys!!

Here are some pictures, I need to do some better ones but these are the only ones in remotely decent weather so far!!

Roll on the summer.....

That looks wonderful and screams investment. Keep it for a while and I'm sure it'll appreciate while you enjoy it.

I didn't buy it to make money and I got a good deal on it so hopefully I wont loose anything. Although there is a trend in my car purchases!! (massive loss) You never know, E36 pries seem to be going up. Could drag this up with them hopefully!

It does sound bloody good with the roof down smile

Only thing I miss is the V8 noise and rocketship pace.

It does look smart in Boston Green and as you say, if it's not something you see as an investment then you may as well just enjoy it.

I'd love to have a nosey over it if you're around in the coming weeks?

Fixed my headlights tonight.

They were flicking on and off over bumps plus would takes a few second to come on when you switched them on. New relay and boom. Perfect lights!

£14 from BMW though...
