This is my latest little project.
its a 4.2 supercharged V8. at some point in its life someone spent a lot of money at paramount performance.
its got uprated supercharger pulleys stainless performance exhaust and a remap. it also came with a power graph at 437.5 bhp.
its got a few bits that need attention.
The horrendous gold plated jag on the front has to go!
The wheels need a referb
and its got the odd rust bubble
I have to so its much better to drive than I ever gave it credit for. The seats are fabulously comfortable. the exhaust sounds brilliant its just like the newer jags with the windows down but quiet enough when cruising about.
it handles very well for road use its every bit as good as my old M5 or E55 but it rides nicer.
the gearbox takes a bit of getting used to it seems a bit jerky when pulling off. it just wasn't to spin the wheels all the time the throttle response it very fast im not sure if this is linked to its remap.
with all that power it really dose fly but its all the torque that's impressive it just pulls and pulls all the time.
these are really under rated a proper performance bargain.
inside its got all the toys you would expect but I have to say the touch screen sat nav control system is way way better than the BMW or merc systems. Full post code search and so simple. how is it that jag could get it so right it 2002 and my old mans 7 series is stuck with that terrible I drive w**k.
so far I have sorted the brakes with new pads and discs. so cheap compared with say e39 M5 around a quarter of the price and they stop much better and don't have fade problems when you press on.
I no the looks are a bit questionable but I have to say its mighty impressive package for the price id say very hard to beat.

I love these. Very reasonably priced as people are scared of them. A mate has an XKR though and seeing the bills for ongoing maintenance they can become quite the money pit. Flush the supercharger and gearbox and keep on top of the oil changes and it'll pay you back. Who on earth would fit a gold leaper lol
Love that, if I were buying a car again I wish i'd have seen these first, I'll be keeping mine for a long while now though.
I think they look really nice too tbh...Interesting with your comparison of the M5 and E55, often regarded as very good cars but the S type R never really gets mentioned and sounds like unjustifiably so.

I've been running a £1,500 3 litre S-type as a station car/general runabout and although it wasn't my first choice I really love it now. As you said, nice place to be, great seats, waftability but can get a move on if required.
Have been wondering what the R would be like but haven't many decent ones advertised in the last 3 months I've been looking.
Do you mind if I asked how much you paid? Prices seem to vary quite a bit from £3K up to £10K for the R?

I paid £4500 for mine, 70k, full Jag and specialist history, 6 month warranty and totally immaculate - that was in early Nov, it was advertised for a fair bit more but put in a cheeky offer that was acceptedGassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
