Ady's Toyota GT86
Discussion
I was following the development of this car for quite a while and I was lucky enough to win one of the drives up goodwood hill back in 2012 when they first came out. Although it was a pretty brief experience I was sold by the time I got to the top of the hill!

Since then I have been keeping my sensible hat on and waiting for the second hand prices to drop, I saw this one come up at a great price so waved goodbye to my S2000 and went for it!
I made sure as much of my last drive was near the 9K redline as possible, I doubt I will be getting anywhere near that in a car for a long time!

You’re probably supposed to take it easy when you get to know a new car but there were quite a few “dabs of oppo” on my first drive to work, its really controllable and predicable compared to the S2000 which while not as bad as people make out could definitely bite if it got out of shape.
Obviously its not as fast in a straight line but it doesn’t feel like there would be a lot in it, you have to work for the power which im used to but its by no means as slow as people make out.
I have a few bits and pieces on the shopping list, looking at exhaust systems as its quite quiet and it would be nice to release some extra ponies!

Probably a wash wouldn’t go amiss either!

I test drove one of these, the only thing that put me off was that noise that is piped in to the footwell from the intake. Even under little acceleration it did it and sounded a bit weird.
Also the break pedal was completely rock solid, I couldn't feel it moving at all. Surely that wasn't right?! haha
The car looks and drives brilliant though, love how they stand out from the crowd.

Congratulations to the OP from a fellow Goodwood competition winner!
but they spoilt it by giving me an auto.
I did test drive a manual last year, but the numbers they quoted didn't really work for me although I really did like the car.
But I had always fancied a BMW Z4 Coupe so I bought one of those last year - occasionally the Americans do get it right. There is no substitute for cubes!
Having said that I would still consider a GT86 when prices drop a bit - it is a great drive.
Hope you continue to enjoy yours!

Thanks for the comments.
Ive only had the GT86 for 3 weeks so not missing the convertible roof at the moment, im sure i will in a couple of months! Ive already had plenty of smiles and laugh out loud moments in it though, it just wants to play and get you involved, its a fun car and that what i wanted.
The engine is fairly uninspiring but most things are a disappointment after the S2000!

From my eyes it seems like a strange swap but you think as an overall package the gt86 is a marked improvement?
Before the S2000 i had a DC2 and an MX5 as a mini fleet, i hoped that the S2000 could give me the best of both but i never really gelled with it. Engine and box were obviously amazing but it didnt give me the feedback and fun factor that i had with the '5 and the teg. I didnt have the confidence through the twistys especially in the wet.Ive only had the GT86 for 3 weeks so not missing the convertible roof at the moment, im sure i will in a couple of months! It is a bit odd, you can block it up. Cant decide if i prefer it with or without.Mr Tidy said:

Sorry, probably not.
I have now become addicted to a straight 6 soundtrack - to the extent that last December I changed my daily driver and got a 325 ti Compact!
