Saxo VTR 2004.

I'm new here just wanted to start a little thread about my car! Basically I've got a 2004 VTR Saxo, one of the last of the breed! I've had two Saxo's now this one been the second and I have to say I love these things.
Having one of these I have been the but of some jokes, but I honestly think I have got the last laugh. It's good on fuel, surprisingly nippy, and can give much beefier cars a run for their money on the B roads! I also like the shape and look of the Saxo, much better than a lot of modern hatches. The tiny wheels look pretty cool and give direct and fun handling, also I have to add about rear torsion beam; which while prone for bearing wear, gives the car an old school oversteer element which is very fun (or disastrous)! Bad points I'd say interior is very rattly, quite tinny but adds to the experience! Also the gearing is quite long and the gear shift it's self is not as tight as it could be, but you can't have it all!
My particular car is completely standard even down to the stereo and exhaust, although I have been looking at a SaxSport system! Showing 67k, a credit to its previous owners having been garaged most of its life and as a result it is my summer toy and hardly sees bad weather!

Fabulous little driving machines these. Prefered my VTS over the 172 cup i currently have. Drove a VTR once and ok it wasnt quick but felt adiquate to have fun in, much like a 205 gti 1.6.

I had a 2001 vtr for 6 or so years, from almost new and it was a great car - 100% reliable and I did about 70k miles in it.
Also had a 2002 vts and that was epic at the time, sounded fantastic with saxsport exhaust and green cotton enclosed filter.
The good old days! I sold them both when my son was born, tempted by another for track use but I think it would probably be a case of spoiling the memory/not as good as I remember!

Thanks for you comments, I agree they are very similar to a 205 Gti 1.6 if not a little more dilute!
But still a cracking car. If you was going to buy one now you'd have to get a standard one cause the thrashed ones don't drive half as good like any car! At the moment prices are pretty rock bottom but I think they may start to rise as many Saxos have already demised!

I sold my VTR to help fund my CTR about 5 months ago and I still miss it. Was so close to storing it to build into a track day car in the future. Mine was Gold and also the butt of many jokes but never let me down and used to be a load of fun to drive, especially chucking it into roundabouts in the wet. Taught me an invaluable lesson in lift-off oversteer.

My old VTS was so much fun, and great on fuel.
Was fully stripped out, had a 4 into 1 'Cituning' manifold and cold air feed, along with decat, OMP steering wheel and Cobra bucket seats. Took it to Trax 2009 at Silverstone and achieved a 0-60 time of 6.35 which I thought was pretty cool.

I love the colour of your Saxo OP. I am also a Saxo fan. My first car a Phase 1 Posi Blue VTR, unmodified other than a magnex exhaust and some cheapy alloys. I loved that car!
Since then I have had a Phase 1 VTS in boring silver but that was a rust bucket. The engine from that lives on in my current daily driver boring silver Phase 2 VTR.
I have lightly modified it and kind of regret it (could do with raising up a bit at the rear to match the front), I would love a nice clean Phase 1 VTS but they are like hens teeth these days!

Loving all the comments and Saxo love! Good to know it's not just me ha. I have and will be keeping mine as true to factory as possible. However they are truly a gem in road or track form! I'd say a saxsport would be a sensible mod they really suit the car and give it a purposeful rasp, rather than a chavvy halfords spesh! I certainly agree about them been one of the last true old school warm/hot hatches. Pick a standard one out and keep it that way because it might seem stupid right now but some day soon people will miss cars like this!

My sister ran a VTR for almost 10 years, it was one of the 1st, 1997 IIRC and had the keypad immobilizer.
Great little car and I used it for a little while after passing my test. She sold it with around 100k on it and aside from a rusty jacking point and a dodgy cooling system (probably from lack of care on her part) it was pretty faultless.
A young guy bought it and it left the house in a cloud of tyre smoke, probably ended up stuck in a hedge as it didn't show on Askmid a few months later,
