Monaro VXR 6.0
Discussion
Just sold the TVR Chimaera I'd had for 6 years (a record and a half for me). Had a list of Elise S2s and VX220 Turbos to look at, as I'd decided to go for delicacy, feedback, directness, adjustability etc this time round......
Of course I bought the opposite. About as subtle as a pissed-up Bankstown Aussie footie fan, the 6.0l Corvette V8 in the Australian pumped-up coupe body has always appealed. My car is completely standard. Early impressions are that it's surprisingly similar to the TVR to drive, slow-in, fast-out, wait for the rear to dig in and hoof it. The gearbox sucks; first thing I'm going to fit is a Ripshifter. Exhaust I'm not too fussed about. I drove one with a Wortec set up to 'loud' and if I'm honest I reckoned my TVR sounded better. Plus, I'd like to actually pass noise testing for the odd trackday.
Looking forward to meeting-up with more of the HSV V8 mob over the summer.

Hi, and welcome to the club! The car looks very clean, but I'll be amazed if the exhaust stays standard (as you're an ex-TVR owner, I'm assuming sound is a key part of car ownership!)
Drop into the Monaro sub-forum and say hello- there's usually plenty of meets being organised for you to attend. We're all a friendly bunch.

Cheers Mikey.
Yes, I'm sure I'll hanker after more noise sooner rather than later. I test drove a car with AP brakes, Pedders suspension, quickrack, Ripshifter and Wortec exhaust. To be honest, the only mod I thought was 'essential' was the ripshifter. A trip to the Fish is probably on the cards.
Already looking at the HSV forum!

Thanks, chaps.
The engine has around 400 bhp stock. Power/weight is 240-ish bhp/tonne. It's grunty enough for me.
The gearshift doesn't have much feel. The throw is short enough, but doesn't really 'slot' into the gate, rather it kind of meets a kind of imprecise resistance, and doesn't like to be rushed. The ripshifter mod makes the shifting action much more mechanical and weighty, it feels like a different gearbox. More like my old S2000 and less like a Massey Ferguson tractor.
The car was indeed bought from Elite, and has covered 29k miles. Thanks to James, great service. I test drove this and a modded 6.0 back to back. The modded car was running around 460 bhp, and although a bit quicker and tighter to drive it had more than double the miles. I decided the only mods I'd really need were the ripshifter and perhaps some kind of exhaust enhancement at a later date, so went for the newer low miles car.
