BMW track day car

I've been dreaming and planning to build a track day car for some time. Looking at a BMW as I think the ones I'm thinking of will be relatively cheap and I want some rwd fun.

So the choices are e36 328i, e46 330i or e46 325ti. I know the e36 is the most obvious one to go for but I think an e46 will be a bit different, especially the compact and its a six pot. Starting prices for all 3 seem to be about the same. I'd welcome any tips, experiences or suggestions.

Before anyone says mx5, I've tried them and they're too cramped for me. And no, I wont be getting a SAAB as a tow car nor a w124 te.

The E36 is the most obvious but I'd probably go for the 330i.

Parts are easily available including bumpers etc

The compact may be a bit harder in terms of 2nd hand bits of body work but I like the look of them. Not sure on their suspension setup, I believe the E36 compact was based on the rear suspension of an E30 which meant it was a tad entertaining!

I've got a 325ti and its fine as a road car, definitely would feel under powered on track though and don't be fooled by its compact looks - it still weighs nearly 1500kg. I'd probably go for a e36 328i with m50 manifold swap.
