Rocket - MOT'd and ready for lift off

This is my little LCC Rocket. Just flown through the MOT again this morning so I thought I'd reward it with 5 minutes of fame on the internet...
This is Chassis No.3 from the original run and was the first customer car. R001 and R002 owned by Gordon Murray and Chris Craft.
Originally it lived in Ireland and was kept at the Mondello Park Motorsport museum for many years. In 2013 it had a minor refresh to make it roadworthy again but it remains pretty much as it left the workshop in 1992. I'm told it's still one of the most original Rockets around.

I've not driven an Atom or a Caterham but I've spoken to a handful of people who've driven all three. They each said they prefer the Rocket as a road car, probably because it rides better on roads full of potholes 
That and the central driving position.
Track may well be a different story though...

Good to see it back on the road, I remember the car being delivered when new to its 1st owner and you are correct yours is definitely one of the most original cars.
Ref the sump they are normal or sometimes baffled but I don't think any are dry sumped unless owners had it done.
Did m.o.t. people say anything about fog light being on the wrong side ? sometimes on mine they make a fuss....

The MOT guy is good. He's used by a couple of classic car storage facilities so sees a good variety. Unfortunately he's about 25 miles away which would be great if the time slot wasn't during rush hour!
He made the point that the fog light wouldn't have been compulsory so it seems strange to have it on a car designed to be as light as possible. Any ideas on that? It's been taped over in the past to get through....so I hear
The hand brake can be more of an issue I'd say.

That's a good point i'm not sure when the became compulsory, mine like yours only ever gets switched on for the mot. Handbrake has never worked but the newer cars have a proper handbrake which actually manages to get some movement on the handbrake caliper. Its not an easy car to get off the line anyway and a hill start is basically a non starter, recently had to ask some very bemused passers by to hold the car and help me get started on a hill !

That's very funny about the passers by. Although the Rocket is a very quick car from A to B, I find I lose a lot of time in researching routes which only have traffic lights/roundabouts on flat or downhill sections. A system like the Carrera GT where you don't touch the throttle and a computer works everything out would be a godsend!
