Mk2 MX5 10th Anniversary

My wife has owned this car for 4 years and in that time it's done 60K miles, been crashed into and filled it with junk. She decided a month or so ago that a new motor was required so bought herself a MK3 2.0 Sport. She borrowed the money to buy it and any proceeds from the sale of this one would go towards paying off a chunk of the loan. So I did the only sensible PH thing and gave her £1200 and added it to my expanding fleet.

For those interested in spec it's factory standard and has the following over a normal MK2:

1.8 16v with 143bhp
6 speed manual
TorSen LSD
Bilstien dampers and sport springs
Blue only available on this model
Chrome wheels
Part leather, part blue alcantara seats
Black and blue leather Nardi Wheel and knob

It's recently had the sills repaired and last year it was fully undersealed. The front chassis legs are spot on.

It needs a few jobs sorting out:

Drivers window doesn't go all the way to the top itself
Internal boot release is broken
Roof has a couple of tears
Exhaust middle box baffles are rattling around
It has a misfire
The headlights are cloudy
The paintwork needs some attention
The interior is filthy and the leather bolsters cracked and worn

A couple of week back I fixed the misfire with a new coil pack. The third one this car has had in 4 years. I'm going to be adding some extra engine earths as Skuzzle reckons this is why it's burning them out.

I then did the only sensible thing and look it on a trackday.

Performed amasingly considering MrsHorneyMX5 hasn't had the alignment done, ever, and its got mismatched tyres front to rear. I was passing most things int he afternoon session that weren't AWD. I took this as I decided it was going to be too wet for the Supercharged MK1 on semi slicks. A wise decision I think!

Today I tackled a few jobs. First the hood. It's supposed to be blue but frankly it looked near enough black. A bottle of APC and stiff brush were employed.

I used the Meguairs kit which is very good. They need a sencind going over I think and then I'm going to lacquer them to stop them going again.

Good job with the resto on the roof & lights, looks like you would have been better off taking a boat onto track in your pics, that is some down pour!

It was like it all day, a month of rainfall in one day. Crazy. Still managed to clip 110mph going into Avon Rise.

Fixed a couple of bits so far and added a couple more to the list.

• Headlights restoring
• Hood patching
• Rear deck carpet refitted (removed due to hood leak above)
• Boot release repaired
• Drivers window adjusted as it doesn't shut completely on the switch
• Polish up the paint work
• Replace the rotten and rattling exhaust
• Make a home brew induction kit for more induction noise
• Fit extra engine earth to for better coil pack longevity
• Restore Leather bolsters

I've mentioned to people that for the right price I'd let it go and had someone round to view it today. Offered £1600 with the hard top.

I think I like it too much to sell it! lol.
