I thought I'd share my blog post on my daily drive. My 2006 VW Golf GTi Mk5 has just completed its 300,000 mile..

Thats a hell of a lot of miles, guessing you must have enjoyed them to have kept going that long?

Interesting to hear the oil pick up blockages didnt cause anything catestrophic and damn those DSG controllers are expensive!

I hope yours doesnt use as much oil as mine did, as that would be quite annoying! ...but I guess you would have mentioned it!

Damn good going (though that's an awful lot of DSG expense - wouldn't go anywhere near one personally). Mind you, not much spent on brakes eases the financial pain a little.

Makes my 174k in same age Focus feel rather inadequate .

Pretty impressive ! I reckon you would have spent a fair bit on clutches and DMF's if you'd had the manual , or DPF's if it was a GT TDI

so much for these time bomb engines that consume oil at an alarming rate or at least until the cam chain tensioner lets go

The EA113 has a belt.

I doubt you'd be able to get the EA888 (chain driven) up to 300k as rumour has it that it's not as hardy an engine.

Cars like this are one of the reasons I bought a Golf. Keep going - it's very affordable motoring.

What mileage did you find yourself replacing the first DSG controller? Judging by your blog it had a fairly hard life with trackdays, etc.

Not excessive, pretty much within VWs consumption guide...

Only 2 sets of brake pads and discs in 240k miles?

Sounds like its mainly used as a motorway muncher then. Either that or driven very gently.

I'm pretty sure only 2 sets of discs, you might be right though, maybe a few more sets of pads, but not many.. i seem to have lost some of bills there are so many now !!

First one around 110,000 miles, the other around 220,000...

Car not actually tracked, those were just numerous trips as a mechanic...
