106 Rallye S2 - new owner questions
Discussion
Evening, can anybody help me out with a few queries about my new purchase?

Firstly, are they supposed to have this in the engine bay?

Also, I'm trying to get back to as close OEM as possible so did they come with a spare wheel in the underboot carrier?
And any idea of what the standard cassette deck looked like...
Apologies, lots of questions but any help would be much appreciated.

The Rallye S1 & S2 were Peugeots homologation cars to go rallying, hence the name and the funky plate.
It's a genuine FIA grpN homologation plate too, which I was always showing people when I had my S1!
Looks a nice car, check the rear beam and drive it!
Eta: looking at the pic your rear wheel looks to have quite a lot of negative camber?
Is it just the picture angle I wonder?, if not check your rear trailing arm bushes, these can cause nasty camber and wreak havoc with the rear bearings and handling.
They can make lift off over steer very snappy causing you to 720 in to curbs, bending a rear stub axle. Don't ask me how I know

Thanks for all the replies, I have wondered about the rear camber and will check this out. Its been along time since I've owned a front wheel drive hot (warm!) hatch, so i'm taking thing very slowly around corners at the moment for fear of disappearing backwards into the scenery....3 or 4 track days next year and lots instruction is definitely on the cards.
The plan is to slowly get rid of the 'improvements' and get it back to standard.
Intriguing, mine doesn't have the homologation plate. I was under the impression that only the S1's had the plate.
ETA where in the bay is it? Looks like it's on the slam panel to the right of the bonnet catch?

I can only see the VIN plate on the opposite side in those pics

Matt, thanks for the reply...this was what i thought as well as i haven't seen the plate on other cars? Looks like it was originally there, its on the opposite end of the slam panel from the Vin plate.Could i pick your brains on a couple of things, any help much appreciated: -
Could you give me any leads in regards to the spare wheel. Currently, my one has no carrier, wheel or jack kit. What do these look like so i can get searching for the correct parts.
Cooling fans, it only has one fitted, should there be 2?
Twin fans were fitted on 16v engined models, i.e. 106 GTI or Saxo VTS, you can retrofit them if you find a fan from one being broken.
Personally, if the spare wheel carrier is missing, I wouldn't make a great effort to refit it. They were prone to dropping and letting the spare wheel fall out when you were driving. Again, if you want to refit, you should be able to get what you need from someone who is breaking a Saxo or a 106, or turning it into a 'track car'.

As you can see I don't have mine on my standard S2 as I agree with Matt's comment. IIRC the carrier is a simple piece of round bar bent to form a basic 'cage' and there is a metal pin/bolt that drops through from the the boot and into the wheel.
re. the homologation plate, my current car doesn't have it and I don't remember my previous one having one either.

Great to see another one of these on the forum!
I bought one at the start of the year which was 100% standard and a one owner car but I have lowered a tiny bit on some bilstein b8s when refreshing all the suspension and changed the steering wheel to a leather one that I had laying about. Kept all the original bits so it's easy to put back.
I love it so far, it's so chuckable. It's not fun on the motorway though. Took it up to the north of Scotland last month and did 900 miles in 4 days.

I've got a homologation plate like that, but it's on my 106 XSi.
That's interesting, I'm sure Peugeot also rallied the XSI in group N, anybody know more about this?Age could also be a factor for this plate, the 106 s2 rallye was launched in October 1997, my car was registered in November 1997 so it's an early car in the production run, could it have been a Peugeot demo car? Or maybe the factory had some S1 plate left and nailed these onto early S2 car until they ran out? No idea really?

Sounds like you've landed a belter there, my one has had a few more owners and might struggle with 900 miles over 4 days at the moment...few oil leaks to attend to first!I bought one at the start of the year which was 100% standard and a one owner car but I have lowered a tiny bit on some bilstein b8s when refreshing all the suspension and changed the steering wheel to a leather one that I had laying about.
