Probably not lots of love on here for this - Rover 800 Coupe

Hi there,
Having owned 3 Rover 800's previously (with 2 of them being Coupes) I have been without an 800 for quite a while now.
That was until last week when I collected my new 825 Sterling Automatic Coupe.
Been after a coupe for a while and despite watching this one sell on eBay a few weeks ago I continued my search. Couldn't find anything and happily saw this one relisted due to a non paying bidder. I promptly dropped the seller a line, paid a deposit and arranged collection.
I picked the car up on Wednesday on my way to work (as it was in Crewe and I work in Knutsford) and then drove it home on Wednesday night. Its a lovely spec car in great condition having just had a years MOT on it.
Its now parked up in my barn while I decide what to do with it. I fancy a full bare metal restoration eventually but its actually good enough to run at the moment for a bit so I might spend this year showing it etc and then take it off the road in the winter to start the work.

Not sure on exact production numbers but its pretty rare to see another one on the road.

I remember thinking these were quite cool when I was 13 - while I'm not quite sure now what I saw in them then, I can see the appeal of such a rare/niche barge!
I can't remember the last time I saw a coupe, or even an 800 of any description - probably because for the last 10 or more years (or since Partridge) Rover 800s have essentially been worthless. Glad some are being saved though!

Hi,Yes Sterling is the trim level (top of the range). In the Coupe they only did Sterling or Vitesse (more sporty than luxury). Sterling was also the name they intended to market the car under in the USA rather than the Rover name.
Will try and dig some pics out of my others, not sure where they are though so might take me a day or two.

That's a lovely Coupe you have there.
I've a mk1 827 Sterling saloon which I'm currently restoring (had to completely remake the sunroof aperture on one side and remake the front A post trim runners on both sides due to rust and replace both wings and cills, painting it next month, 2tone light blue and green)) and a mk2 825 Sterling Fastback in the same colour as yours. (Which I drive to work, still only has 35k on the clock)
Got a huge pile of spares if you need any bits too.
I love the 800s, it really takes me back to my early work days when my boss had a Sterling as a company car.
If I could find a good 827 Coupe I'd snap it up, one was on car and classics recently but I was undecided over the colour as it was red and missed it.
