The Volvo S80 D5 SE Lux Bus (luxobarge)

I do a lot of miles as part of my job and having recently been doing these miles in a 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero 2.0T manual, it decided one day that it did not want to be a car and just wanted to make lots of alarm type noises, so I ended up selling it (cheap
). I then ended up spending 3 weeks driving my BMW M5 for work, which as you may know, a 5.0 V8 is not ideal for doing 2k miles a month, even at 45p a mile. Wear and tear is also a factor. This brings us nicely to Friday. I had arranged to go view an S80 on Friday evening. Que a tube and train journey from London down to Robertsbridge have a look at the car.
A quick check over and drive saw me handing over some pieces of paper with the Queen on them and setting on driving the 122 miles North West back up the A21 and M25.
So here it is, a 2005 SE Lux Auto, 107k miles on the clock, recent cam belt change and other works in pretty good condition considering it is an 11 year old car.
(Please excuse the quality of the pictures, it was raining when I took them - it had been dry until then!)
Everything seems to work, though the radio reception isn't great and doesnt pick up MW, which is annoying as I listen to TalkSport.

I had the same radio reception issue on my XC90, though it did work occasionally, never did get to the bottom of it before I sold the car.
Now have the same issue on the Audi A3 I drive each day, maybe the radio gods are trying to tell me something !
Nice car though, interesting choice to the normal S60 /V70 / Saab type barge

Cheers. I had the Saab and I was originally looking for an S60, but the S80 was more appealing based on cost and size.

Thanks for your very generous offer. Unfortunately my car is a Euro III.
My dad had an identical colour combo/spec 06-plate car and he loved it. Averaged mid 40s to the gallon driven mainly at c80-85 on cruise control, he put c140k miles on the car and it never, ever let him down or failed an MOT. Only costs were consumables and servicing, only got rid as it had 155k miles on it and he fancied a change.
As a comfortable car to do big commuter miles in, a Euro 3 D5 car is extremely hard to beat.

Very good to know! As I get paid 45P a mile I tend to sit at the speed limit so I hope I may get a bit better economy and maximise my allowance As a comfortable car to do big commuter miles in, a Euro 3 D5 car is extremely hard to beat.

What's wrong with sat nav? I'm quite impressed with it, and mines a 2006 vintage.
I just couldn't ever get along with it, maybe it gets better with familiarity but I was only in a press car for a week which wasn't long enough to get used to it. I just found the joystick interface impossible to fathom, and if I remember correctly it didn't take a full postcode either.To be fair every 10 year old nav system is rubbish, even the kit in my four year old Evoque is outdated and slow so I'm probably being a little unfair, but I do remember the Volvo system being the worst of all at the time.

Oil change done last weekend. Car has averaged 39mpg over the last 1000 miles.
Tried to fit an iPod adapter only to find ive been supplied kne that doesn't work with my car, and that there is a rats nest of wires and took me ages to get the head unit back in place!
Other than a new dent in the drivers door after leaving it at Heathrow for a week, nothing to report.
