Just before christmas last year in a moment of Nostalgia, one of my friends spotted this Rallye for sale on eBay. Over the years I have had several 106's and Saxo's but never a Rallye. As I have started doing track days over the past couple of years I jumped in the car one morning for the couple of hour drive to take a look. As usually happens with me when I go looking at cars I got massively over excited and drove away with it that day.

So I took a bit of punt with it, it didn't come with any history (I got a V5, MOT and Dyno print out) and the engine wasn't as sweet as it could be. It has been converted to a 16v with Newman PH3 cams and an exhaust system. I was told it had been mapped, hence the dyno printout but I wasn't convinced, more to that part of the story later...

It took a few months for my old track day car to sell so the Rallye sat idle until in February I could finally get her shipped home. Was abit of challenge getting it up on the van but eventually we managed it!

New parts had been stocking up whilst I was able to work on it
Front and rear Brakes
Brake Fluid
Wishbones
Drop links
Powerflex Bushes
Radiator
Oil
Coolant
Gearbox (the one on the car was leaking oil from the bell housing, when we got it off found it had a clutch explosion at some point in its life)
numerous sensors to try and resolve the engine cutting out problem we were having.
Strut tops and bearings
etc.....

As soon as I could get it into the workshop we did, replaced the gearbox, serviced and fitted all the new parts. Throughly glad we did this as every where we looked we were finding finger tight bolts!

After getting most of the big jobs done, popped up to Cadwell Park one morning to get a DB check on the exhaust done before the TrackAddict day at Rockingham the following week and thanks to the guys at Open Track we ended up on circuit for the morning! All systems checked out working ok, still an annoying knock from the steering rack which I had hoped the replacement front suspension parts would have sorted.. Eventually traced the source to some finger tight bolts in the rack itself!

The following weekend was the Track addict day at Rockingham which didn't quite run as smoothly as it could... We ran a few sessions in the morning until we started to notice some movement in the clutch pedal.. After a quick inspection the mounting itself had almost completely failed.. I shouldn't have reused the bolts from the previous gearbox as they clearly weren't up to the job..

Almost made it home!

A friend came to rescue me with a ratchet strap and a tow rope.

The car stayed with my friend whilst he remounted the box and sorted a few other bits and pieces for me including wrapping my manifold.

Another good night at Cadwell followed with my old track day car coming along to play too! Only 15 cars were booked in so we spent most of the evening on circuit playing.

Inevitably with an old Peugeot, some rust was beginning to appear so repairing that has begun, currently still in the work in progress stage as we found some hidden away under some filler when cleaning up the boot.

Despite trying all sorts of bit and pieces with the engine we still couldn't get it running at its best so I had to bite the bullet and send it off for someone to look at. After speak to Stewart at Alive Tuning in Louth he was fairly certain he knew where to look and I took the car up there one Tuesday morning hoping he could sort it that day... 2 weeks later I got the car back and wow, what a difference they had made! The managed to squeeze 140.6bhp from it, which for a car around 800Kg is pretty handy.

They managed to trace the problem to the throttle body itself, that was replaced and the engine started running properly. My newly wrapped manifold had managed to crack where it had been repaired previously so that had to be replaced and it also managed to split a CV boot on one of the drive shafts at the same time!

I cant fault the guys at Alive, they worked through all the troubles they had and even brought in the correct live mapping equipment as they didn't have it at the time. Would throughly recommend them to anyone who was looking for a similar service.

Whilst it was there we also fitted the Grams lightweight exhaust system from Kam Racing, it sounds excellent and looks pretty good as well.

Once I had the car back, I needed to get it out on track again to see how the changes stacked up. Donington Park was the venue this time and my old car was there again smile

Getting abit arty with the photography

Thumbs up all around, apart from the gearbox which now whining horribly and has since been replaced again....

Heres a quick video of my rubbish lines..

Current list of circuits its been around.

Hoping to get her out again to Oulton Park and Croft soon, did both of these last year in my fiesta and loved them both.
