Mercedes 190E 2.0 Auto

So, I was seeking a more interesting daily driver.. ended up scratching an itch I've had for a long time.

Step in the 190E, 2.0 auto. 87,000 miles with mostly Mercedes history, it's in lovely condition for its age.



Have been short on time recently but (with the help of a kind friend) have managed to replace most consumables and generally show it a bit of love. Very enjoyable to drive.

I have the same itch for the same duty, be interested to see how you get on with this. How many miles do your daily's cover in a year?

Cheers, all good so far - reckon I'm getting between 30 and 35mpg, less on shorter journeys. I reckon it's facing 10,000 miles a year or so.

10k pa is a big ask of a 25 year old car of any kind, am sure a few issues will surface as wear and tear/overuse takes hold, but keep on top of them and she won't let you down.Good luck with her, and oh....fill her full of waxoyl when you're at it!

Absolutely, and the car certainly isn't without its flaws but having spent the last few weeks in, out and underneath the thing I'm getting a good idea of where and what will soon need attention. Good point on the Waxoyl, I do really need to do that. Cheers

Plus take off inner wing liners and then clean inner edges of wings and waxoyl in there too!

As someone who has done 20k per annum in mine for the past two years, I can encourage you by saying that mine has never let me down but that renewal of the odd electrical relay and most of the suspension bushings have improved my morale no end. These things do have a sophisticated (complicated) suspension arrangement..

That's great to hear. I've seen all sorts of horror stories relating to the OVP but my own car appears to be behaving well. Suspension-wise, the car is tight and quiet after a new lower control arm. I believe the rear end was rebuilt not so long ago - many, many parts!

Several months and a few thousand miles in and life is still pretty sweet with the 190. The longer I keep it the more I appreciate the thought that went into this car.

Liked the blog post, nothing too horrendous considering its age, I ran a 944 S2 and it was bloody hard work to keep on top of as a daily(ish) and my modern 2008 Merc needs an oil separator (part on its way for the princely sum of £16) as it is dripping oil onto the exhaust, which smells delightful as you can imagine, so, really you arent doing too badly and have the car as good as it can be so should give years of service still.

Nice car Braintax. I have done 45,000 miles over the past three years in my 2.5-16. They are more tolerant of use than people suppose. In fact I think regular use is all part of caring for them

I've often wondered whether the slats at the base of the c-pillar in these goes anywhere / does anything, or whether it's purely cosmetic?
