Went a bit mad last month - 3 cars, sublime to ridiculous!

Ended up buying 3 new cars last month.
Safrane 2.5 RXE, 54k from new, everything works, excellent condition inside and out, couldn't resist for a grand, I'm a sucker for old Renaults.
Clio 197 with Cup Pack, 66k with cambelt service just done. A trader friend had it in and it was a very good price. Thought it might be a competitive sprint car in the under 2.0 standard production class.
And finally a lovely XKR, only 45k with full main dealer history. Like this car very much, a proper grand tourer.

Yes same here, nostalgia overload! My dad had a 93 L Reg 2.0 Vi and when you pressed a button on the dash it said: ' computer Is now checking systems for you', and if you forgot to shut the door or let the washer fluid go low it would tell you so in a very factual French way. I spent a few holidays travelling down to the South of France in one of these and they had just come out over there. I remember the Frenchies pouring all over it as it was quite expensive at the time, their president used to be driven around in one. Very comfortable car to wait about in. Even did a bi-turbo version I believe.

It does talk, but thankfully you can turn it off. Renault 11 Electronique and Maestro Vanden Plas were the first main stream cars I can remember talking. To my shame I briefly had a Vanden Plas Maestro in the 80's! The Vel Satis still talked but it generally tells you loads and loads of mis-information as when you start up - and you can't turn it off :0). My mates one drives him mad with literally 2-3 minutes of messages every time its started :0).si_xsi said:

They did, German and French market only I believe. Cars were assembled by Hartge (the BMW Tuners). I have the engine from one in this but modified to be one large turbo for ease of installation.Amazing selection OP, top work.

Yes Volvo 20v lump. It is soooo comfortable and there's something very liberating about driving a car worth so little. Can leave it anywhere without worry, people who don't know what it is are completely dismissive of it, but to me I'm driving around in a car that ferried French Presidents around for the price of a service on a modern car of that ilk, which makes me smile :0)
