I remember "Sunburst Red" very well indeed.
A family member had one of the very early ones, W Reg like yours. He parked it outside our house. It was literally stopping traffic. A small crowd had gathered to look at it.
I remember being allowed to drive it. It was a thrill and as a young lad, like nothing I had experienced before.

Must be one of the first ever Ford XR cars - as the XR2 and XR4 came some time later.
This one looks great - although like somebody else mentioned I don't remember the front spoiler being so big?
Absolutely love it though - I wish I'd bought an RS1600i when they could be had for a grand!

Yeah spoiler is an rs1600i one, it came with the car although i am undecided as to whether or not to keep it on there, the TTW reg xr3's were the first production run xr3's, they were all registered by Ford for press, then sent to dealers for demo cars, this was the Brooklyn Ford car, i only know of 2 other TTW cars that are still on the road, this one was registered November 1980 so yes, it was one of the first ever XR cars, lucky find i thinkThis one looks great - although like somebody else mentioned I don't remember the front spoiler being so big?

What a fantastic car!
It seems strange that there was a time that these could be picked up for peanuts and parts were readily available
I remember in '84 I had a paper round and one young guy with a mullet and a saucy little treacle had a brand new sunburst red RS1600i.
I bought myself a 1985 RSTurbo in '92 (B150 VNC where are you now?). Like an idiot I sold it for £900!!
With the xr3 I actually preferred the earlier laser trim to the later style

I never understand these comments about regretting selling cars that have subsequently appreciated in value.
Most of these RS/XR cars were rusty money pits - the cost to keep them nice over the years would far exceed any increase in value.
Must admit I loved my RS Turbo but my god the money that went into that thing was terrifying.
