As requested pics of my long term project! Hasn't been touched in 5 years! Currently dry stored in a barn, looking at it at the weekend made me sad it's not usable, not a rotten rust bucket just needs reassembling and cleaning/polishing, will definitely rebuild it at some point!

Arches look in good nick and non sunroof model!

Did you buy it like this or have you stood it for 5 years?

I sold much Lhasa green one in 2008. I loved how easy it was to chuck about that car. Used as a daily my entire ownership. Only made way for an E30 325i.

What's the engine plans? An LSD would be a good option if upping the power.

It's on my list! It's rust free!!! Wheel well and arches are solid, never been welded or loved, I bought it drove it back from London popped the radiator and cooked the engine so out it came, rebuilt a new one and installed it

I'm going to need some expertise once I pull it out, the idea is it keep it all original, don't really want a trailer queen or full out track car just something I can enjoy on a sunny Sunday

Well that looks like quite a project there, I don't think you've got time for this internet malarkey you've got a whole car to build!

The shell looks decent enough in the pictures. What model is/was it?

MDMA .

That's stunning! I'm planning on polished p slots instead, well it's registered as 1.3 golf c but when I collected it had full gti spec! Original gti arches and original gti grey striped seats!

I want to keep all original and useable, does anyone know where I can get oem parts? Need a bonnet and few other bits

Going to need your help with this one guys!!!

Um. Full GTI spec including the 1.8 engine? If so, I'm assuming you'll be getting the logbook updated?

1.8 engine into a 1.3 shell required cutting and welding to make new engine mounts on the chassis rails.

My guess would be that it was a lookalike GTI still with the smaller engine.

OP, forget the 1.6/1.8 8v if the car isn't an original gti.

Go for a mk3 16v engine to drop in at the very least.

If you don't go ahead with it, give me a nod. I might be interested. wink

Finally! after dragging it out the barn to start work found the sills, arches and boot well all solid with no rust! It's in the mechanics workshop now so after its running will be off to the body shop for a good mop and polish then I will be fitting the wheels and getting some miles in over the summer!

Considering its 34 years old, all the paint and body is original I don't think it's come out to bad, more photos to follow after a good polish, please let me know what you think

Not really your project if its going to the mechanics etc for them to do all the work.

Nice car though and a good find if all the bodywork is original.

He's only finishing of the wiring, I took the engine out rebuilt it, all new gaskets and belts, rebuilt the body with new seals, it's definitely original paint, was dry stored when I bought it then I dry stored it further!
