Mercedes E63 AMG Designo
Discussion
Evening all,
Having had a varied selection of different cars since gaining my license, a few years ago my Wife and I were expecting our first child. I somehow decided that with this in mind, I didn't need a diesel estate car, and that a 6.2ltr V8 Mercedes saloon was actually the ideal family car. We purchased a C63 AMG, which was a car that I had lusted after since its launch in 2008. I did a short Readers Cars thread on it at the time, which you can read here,
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
Unfortunately, I no longer run a shed alongside my AMG, as I got a brand new SEAT Leon FR last year to do the daily duties. I actually miss shedding though, especially my little Rover 25
Roll on a few years and I was after something a little newer without the growing stigma attached to the C. The problem was that the car was so good, it got under the skin of both my Wife and I, and we knew replacing it was going to be difficult, so we test drove the new 4.0ltr C63. That car left us cold and we started to look at others, including the Alfa Romeo Guilia QV and the Mercedes E63 AMG. Things didn't pan out to well when trying to order the Alfa, which is when I stumbled across my ideal E Class.
Long story short, we had a lot of negotiating with the extremely helpful and patient dealer and a deal was struck, so in October last year, we picked up our Mercedes E63 AMG in Designo Matte Allanite Grey Magno with Mystic Red and Black interior. While I know that the car will not be to everyone's taste, I absolutely love the colour and the interior, although it generates a lot more attention than I am used too.
The spec includes the following options on top of the already massive standard equipment list ;
B28 AMG Exterior Carbon Fibre Package 2
K11 Adaptive Brake Lights
U09 Exclusive Package
U25 AMG Front Door Sill Panels With White LED Illumination
X13 Designo Leather Mystic Red
044 Designo allanite Grey Magno
409 Multi Contour Seat Package
413 Panoramic Glass sliding Roof
488 AMG Ride Control
527 Command Online
540 Electric Blind For Rear Windows
628 Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus
641 LED Intelligent Light System (RHD)
670 Residual Engine Heat Utilisation
736 Black High Gloss Ash Wood Trim
752 19 Inch AMG 10 Spoke Light Alloy Wheels
810 Harmon Kardon Logic 7 Surround Sound (RUBBISH SYSTEM TO BE UPGRADED WITH AUDISON SYSTEM SOON)
889 Keyless Go
The car is a dream to drive and is better than the C63 in every way bar the engine. It is smoother to dive, handles better, feels more premium and has a lot more toys to play with, but the engine, while dynamically better and more efficient, is not a match for the old M156 6.2 V8 - An engine that I already miss a lot. Don't get me wrong, the M157 (5.5 BiTurbo) is a brute and can easily push the car along in no time, but it lacks the noise and character of the old car and I dont think I can do anything to gain that back in this car.
Anyway, I plan to update this thread with some small modifications as I go along, as well as adding pictures every now and again. Planned modifications are as follows;
-New exhaust system, nothing major, but I want to release a little more noise
-Audison Full Digital Audio system as the OEM HK Logic upgrade is terrible
-Eurocharged remap
-Private Registration - Now Done
And so to some pictures

And as for the first child, we had a boy (Jack) who will be 3 later this month. The first trip home from the hospital was in the C63 and he is absolutely car crazy now. He loved the C63 and is mad on the E63, always saying "Go Faster Daddy" and telling me to "Race Car Start" when the traffic lights change! We are also never aloud to turn the engine off without giving it a little blip of the throttle or two for him! Like Father like Son, I really feel for his Mum.
Sorry for the picture overload, but I look forward to peoples comments.

Weapon of a car, awesome colour. Did the performance pack option disappear with the introduction of the S? Which leads to my next question, LSD rear?
Thanks! My C63 was a PP car and although this car doesn't have it, it does have all of the associated parts, including the LSD as an option (I forgot to mention that above). I think PP was dropped on the facelift E63 but you can spec it with everything except the power increase, which came on the E63S instead! Lynch91 said:
Really like those, think yours looks great too.
Thank you, I'm really happy with the looks and car in general. And as I said, it's a great car to drive, I just really miss the C class and the M156 engine. The M157 sounds more industrial and mechanical, where as the 6.2 was a pure classic V8 rumble!Hell yeah, now that's my sorta car.
I absolutely love and adore these cars. To me, they are the epitome of beautiful. The only thing I would have instead is the estate, rather than the saloon version.
I've heard one locally that sounds pretty damn brutal, so definitely get an exhaust job done on it soon to release some more AMG POWER.
Your child sounds SO adorable. I hope one day when I have kids they'll be just as car mad as your little one.
Congrats buddy. You're a lucky guy.

Thank you. I am very grateful to own it and it's definitely a car I always look back at as I walk away from it. As with the C63, my Wife likes to get her hands on the keys as much as possible too!I absolutely love and adore these cars. To me, they are the epitome of beautiful. My Son is awesome, he shuns cartoons for F1 and Touring Cars and only likes playing with toy cars and his car mat, apparently just like me as a child! For his 2nd birthday we gave him his own little Mercedes and he drives it all the time, and loves cleaning it when I clean our cars!
I have to say that cars are a big part of my family's life and my Son has been massively influenced, but I love bonding with him over cars and going for a morning blast just him and I.
i think that looks magnificent! no idea why theres so much hate for the wheels? they break up the body colour perfectly.
i currently own a 2014 C63 and i hear you on the car having a lot of character.. ive had it since last summer and i still couldn't tell even years down the line what id replace it with.. the only thing that could possibly come to mind is the newest E63 (4wd/600bhp) but even then i question how clinical it may sound and feel!
performance wise, how do they compare? i know the E is more powerful and with a totally different power plant but its also a heavier and larger car.. a remap on yours must make them jaw dropping to drive.

I have the same car but with black interior and nicer alloys. Also 625bhp and 730lb/ft torque. I'd suggest a remap, it knocks a second off the 0-100 to bring it roughly to seven point something seconds and the extra slug of torque means you can cruise around in fourth in Sport as if in Comfort. So sharp response but only an increase in torque reminiscent of a tuned RS6. BTW some of those options you mention are standard I think.
Facelift E63 is one of my favourite mercs they really nailed it on the facelift W212, loving the colour combination of your car as well OP I don't think I've seen many that are matte from the factory.
With regards to sound, I think the best thing you can do with these is changing to catless downpipes not only do they sound monsterous but also free up quite a few ponies. - I think there is another PHer who had them fitted so might be worth doing a search on here

I'm a sucker for all things AMG, want one for a daily ride having owned a very special e55 Kleemann 610bhp that was featured in Mercedes Enthusiast magazine a few years ago!!, my 19 yo son has just ordered a new A class AMG line with night pack, I was like a kid in a sweetshop at MB, people are either Audi, Merc or BMW, our family is Merc, the others just don't cut it.
Enjoy, looks awesome!!
Enjoy, looks awesome!!
