World first - VR38DETT (R35 GTR) Powered AWD Evo 8
Discussion
Gents, a small introduction to my evo 8, powered by a Nissan VR38 engine from an R35 GTR. The engine is fully forged and full of goodies. The car will remain AWD and first indications are that the weight distribution in the car is much better than that of the standard platform.
The car to date:
Fabricaton is finished.
Paintwork is in the final throws of completion.
Next up:
Re-assembly and wiring.
The build can be found on Instagram and FB just look for #armchairtuner and #evogtr
The front wings on, subframes built back up and on, Nitrons on, Alcon front brakes on, door mirrors on, door handles on.... Great Progress!

Superb build, although looks like he's not intending to use the GTR transmission ?
It would have seemed an obvious choice given it's proven strength and performance, as well as weight balance with it out back rather than an engine mounted sequential etc.
Stevie, I am not so sure on the proven strength part, to buy a used GR6 costs around £5K and then you would need to spend at least £20K on it to get it anywhere near reliable in high power applications. A fully built Stage 7 GR6 transmissions from the USA cost around $25,000+ USD and even then both ETS and AMS were eating them faster than a batch of school children in a chocolate factory. Then there is all the electronics that are required and the constraints of using the Nissan TCM dictating when it wants to change down the gears rather than when you want to.
Lastly, the weight of the GR6 is huge compared to a conventional setup of transmission and rear diff.

ETS and AMS are pushing rather hard though...and I'm sure their cars weight a lot more ? And Syvecs can control the box/clutches ok AFAIK. I dont think you need to use very much from Nissan there ? although I could be wrong

I didnt think you'd need to spend that much on a GTR box to get something workable. It's something I had in the back of my mind for my own car someday.....very very very far back lol Especially with those numbers
A more conventional sequential is obviously a much easier task and they are very good value and relatively light all things considered.
Definitely look forward to seeing this one out there ! Superb build and something very different.
