Hi Everyone,
My name is Seán, I’m new here. A friend has asked me to attend the upcoming Sunday Service. I thought it best therefore to properly introduce myself and do my best to contribute to the forum and not simply take. Hopefully this is the right part of the forum to make an introduction.
I’m in my early 30s and have always liked cars. I live in Milton Keynes, which is essentially an open big go-kart track with long straights and plenty of corners; otherwise known as roundabouts.
My car history isn’t extensive.
My first car was an R reg Suzuki Swift 1.3 GLS. It was a reliable and faithful first car which I had for some 3 years. Next I moved onto an 06 plate Fiesta ST. I loved this car and I took full advantages of the unique Milton Keynes layout.
A promotion at work 4 years later meant I needed a more economic and comfortable car for longer journeys. Out went the ST and in came a 13 plate Alfa Romeo Giulietta, 2.0l diesel. Unfortunately the car received a face lift in early 2014, I was left with no choice to chop it in for a face lifted model which I still drive today.
A thread is always better with pictures.
The technology in the car is a little outdated when compared to its German counterparts, but is in enjoyable to drive and nowhere near a boring as the Golf/A3/1 Series/A-class brigade. If I had to replace this car with another inside this sector I think I would go straight back to a Giulietta.
Recently I was made redundant from the only company I have ever worked for. The soon due redundancy pay-out has meant I have been able to buy myself a weekend car. A car that I have always admired. I am absolutely thrilled to finally have one in my garage. The Alfa Romeo 147 GTA.
Mine has benefited from a few modifications. Alfa Q2 slip diff, Alfa 330mm uprated brakes, Bilstein B12 springs, 15mm spacers and a custom quad exhaust.
Here she is in all her glory.

Apart from cars I also like watches, music and films. Below are few pics of my favourite car with one of my favourite watches and the symbol of my most favourite group The Prodigy.

Still think the 147 GTA is about the best looking hot hatch ever produced.
Only ever driven a standard one and dynamically it didn't quite gel for me. Certainly quite "exciting" but not necessarily that enjoyable. I'd love to try one with the diff and suspension tweaks, as I think that would probably turn it from a good but slightly compromised car to something outstanding.

Most car people seem to mock Alfa owners...in a nice way of course !
I suppose I was a bit like that before I bought my first one; a 2000 x reg 156 1.8 TS from a pal. Had 115,000 miles on it, and I put another 20,000 on it. After it was 'sorted' I loved that car !
Liked 156 's so much I replaced it with a more 'modern' 2005 1.9 JTDM 150, which I had remapped about 30,000 miles ago. I can honestly say that there are very few cars that I have driven over the years that I would swap it for.... well maybe a pal's Boxster S...!!
Although the modern Alfas are no longer made in the Arese factory, they are different to most of the other makes and I believe that they still have that 'Alfa character '...that includes many 'quirks', or foibles if you like !
My ultimate Alfa would have to be the 156 GTA, which mechanically is very similar to the OPs 147 GTA, or has a similar floorpan, engine and underpinnings etc.
The only thing would be the fuel consumption, which is just acceptable in my JTD ( average 42mpg on my commute ) but with a 3 .2 litre V6 Busso would be quite a bit more !!

My average MPG after about 1,000 miles of ownership is 14.6. But that is tearing around Milton Keynes.
No pics of the engine to show yet, it's due a cambelt change. Which I hope to get done in the next few weeks. At the time I will be getting the engine cleaned and powder coated to match the colour scheme of the car. Pics will then follow.
