Jaguar xj6 3.0 x350
Discussion
Was keeping one eye open for a r129sl and this popped up, couldn't say no when I saw the condition.
It's an early car, 2003, 40k miles. He was a builder and just used the car on a Sunday. It literally looks and drives as new.
I'll admit I don't know a hugh amount about Jags but it seemed a ridiculous amount of car for the money. Well enough specced with touch screen nav, electric blind etc etc.
Drives well, the 3.0 is throaty, likes to rev which goes against the nature of the car, but it is equally happy cruising along at motorway speeds at sub 2k rpm.
A bit of research shows them to be fairly reliable with a few areas to watch including air suspension, but all seems good so far on this one so I'll deal with anything as it arises happily knowing the repair bill will probably be similar to 1 or 2 months HP payments for the first owner.

Just sold mine, I did a bit of an 'end of term report' https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...
Air suspension - if you get the off 'AIR SUSPENSION FAULT' on the display that goes away the next time you use the car, don't worry about it. The pump seals get tired and if the suspension doesn't get up to pressure within 2 minutes of startup, the computer throws the error but continues to pump the bags up. You can usually tell a weak pump as you'll hear an intermittent noise like you're going over a cattle grid, only quieter.
Change the gearbox oil and filter - it's the 'sealed for life' ZF box and a lot failed around the 70k mark.
Enjoy it - it's a lot of car for the money and the Ford engine seems to be the pick of the bunch for reliability.

Looks lovely, they really are a nice comfortable ride aren't they.
Had mine for 15 months it's a 54 plate and think it's my best value car that I've bought over the 30+ years of driving.
Just done over 6,000 miles in mine and have loved every one of them, only used for shortish local trips and am still looking forward to going on a long trip which has got to be a positive after having it 15 months.
So far mine's had to have a couple of rear tyres (not cheap) and replaced 2x rear bushes and 1x lower arm about 5 months ago on 72k because they were squeaking.
Interesting to read about the gearbox oil because for the 1st time a couple of days ago it gave a little clonk when going from P to R,but it's been as normal today.(It's due a service in the near future) so like you will get them to check it.
Enjoy OP..... absolutely love mine

Do you still have the Jag? Been looking at these and was wondering if you could give your thoughts over the time you have had it
No I sold it to a friend who was in need of a car last year. He’s taken it up to 90k completely reliably. He’s soon to be upgrading so I’ll be buying it back off him and doing any corrective work that’s required. irish boy said:
