Van Diemen Multisport ZX10r
Discussion
It would appear to be a rare care, I am told this was used as a demo/teaching care at Brands Hatch. A cursory internet search doesn't bring up much in the way information but I know they built a few of these as mine is number 18.
I believe it was originally fitted with an Xr3i engine and at some point in it's life it was converted to a bike engine which was done to a very good standard.
At least one of the previous owners ran out of talent as the front body has been repaired, probably better than I could do but certainly not to a very high standard.
My current plans are as follows:
Eradicate the 'electropop' paintwork and paint it black and add a few highlight in a contrasting colour.
Fit some seats I can get my tubby arse into.
Look into the possibility of having some moulds made of the panels so if I run out of talent I can have some body panels made
Generally tidy up and clean the car as its a bit rough around the edges

Seriously cool!
I had a go in a Forumla 3000 at the weekend, experiencing proper downforce for the first time. It has now made me yearn from something with working aero. This looks like a lot of fun.
I was going to suggest a colour scheme of black and gold - à la John Player Special - but looks like it's too late. Looks decent nonetheless.

Ditto. Was going to suggest something cool like a Marlboro, Silk Cut or Gulf homage (note - not replica!). Kawasaki green is definitely eye-catching, but a bit 'vivid' for me. I would have probably gone down some kind of Can-Am scheme, but that's why were all different! My plan is track day it, I don't think noise will be an issue as it has a standard ZX10r engine with an motorbike silencer. It has a noise pass sticker on it from Brandshatch so I don't anticipate any massive issues.
I've spent some time working on the wheels, but not as much as I would like. Work is quite busy at the moment so its literally a few minutes here and there when I've got time.
.

At my current rate of tinkering and looking at the jobs list I think it will be ready for some track days in the spring, which is fine as I have done quite a few days already this year.

Multi sports was a one make Sports racer series developed byvJohn Webb, I think, of Brands Hatch fame, who wanted a cheap one make series to replace Sports 2000 and sit alongside the single seater Formula First series, as well as being used a race school car. The cars were built by Van Diemen in Norfolk.
Originally it would have had a transverse engine, might have been from and XR3i, might have been a 2 litre Zetec, I can't remember.
The series wasn't massively successful and faded away after a couple of years, although I think the Brands Hatch race school continued to use them for a while and some went into various "Libre" type sports racer series. I have nt seen one for a fair while, although one or two were fitted with a Subaru Boxer engine and used in the German Interseries series.

a very brief update:
I have given up on the front, the complex shape is beyond my ability to make any better than it is so I taken it to a local body shop for them to have a look at. I have a feeling it won't be a cheap fix.
Progress has been slow due to being busy at work but I'm hoping my forthcoming few days off will be productive.
Further updates to follow

The seats that came with the car were too narrow so I bought some more on the understanding they were larger. Originally they were but the previous owner had modified them to fit into his kit car. This left me with a dilemma as the seats fitted me and the car but they pinched at the thighs.
I hadn't paid a lot for them and they were the perfect angle so i decided to modify them myself. As is the norm with any job on this car it's taken far longer and was more difficult than the original plan. I think I have got them to a point were I am now happy with them.

The front section is still at the body shop is progressing but its clearly had a couple of nudges in it's life.

one of the old repairs has lifted and will require some extra work,
