I've 're done this thread as photobucket ruined my last one and I can't be bothered editing and sorting so anyway, I picked this up around the 5th of Jan 2017 for 1100 of a mate at work had a few problems but it was fixable , the idea was to take my e46 m3 of the road (phorobucket ruined the m3 thread) so i can sort bodywork and a few other things.
The problems of the e91 were
-big oil leak he was told it was rear main seal - fixed it was the sump washer crushed to death and leaking alot.
-dash clocks turned on and off when driving - fixed with some second-hand clocks.
-Rear door dented badly - fixed with a new door
-egr valve stuck - egr delete done and cooler removed.
They were the main ones few other problems but nothing big, the car was on 145,000 so swirl flaps got deleted 4 new buru plugs and a service.
I've now took the m3 off the road and saving tons of money not having 2 cars insured and driving the m3 to work all the time, I was using the e91 just to cart my lads crap around and shopping but were buying a house and taking the m3 off the road seemed sensible - her idea of sensible was to sell , oh I laughed smile
Anyway pics
When I picked it up

Even has the idrive!

First thing was a wash and clean the headlight out as it was green inside

Bit of a hooligan question, but is the traction control easily switched off in these? Been considering an E91 touring like yourself as a cheap comfortable workhorse as there's a few for not much more than shed money if you're lucky, but I'd want to have some fun on damp roundabouts with it too!

Egr, swirl flap blanking and general cleaning of the bay.
Dirty bay

Clean bay

Egr valve off

Manifold and blanks fitted

Egr delete on

Abs pump was knackered (common thing ) so second hand one ordered and swapped the ecu from mine to the new and bled through inpa then the old fashioned way but out with the old

Lovely looking thing for the money. Well played.

And yes, there should be a 2 stage system. Pressing the DTC button engages dynamic traction control which leaves the stability on but allows some slip. Press and hold and the whole system is disengaged and you are on your own.

Be warned, plenty of fun leads to many trips to the local tyre fitter!

Chris, what's the access like getting to the EGR valve and the glow plugs?

I'm thinking the glow plugs on my E90 (M47) might be past their best (not starting as well as before, white smoke) and might as well clean the EGR whilst I'm getting dirty!

Thanks

Simon

Simon the egr is right underneath the engine cover I've took mine off (shiny pipe off manifold) and the glow plugs you need to take the inlet manifold off which isn't to hard mate

Yikes. I can see that going wrong, with my lack of skills. Thanks anyway mate, much appreciated. I'll just do the EGR then.

Your car is looking much better - but I think I might have left the spacers on your M3! laugh

I've suddenly started noticing E9*s all the time - probably because I bought an E91 325i last month (I had BMW 4-pot diesels for nearly 10 years - now I just want petrol straight 6s and sod the expense)!

Anyway yours looks smart, and it doesn't have the N47 engine which has to be a bonus!

Good luck with your mods - it just gets to you doesn't it? laugh

cheers man the m3 can live without them its off the road at the moment will treat it to new ones!
anyway got my glow plugs changed and the relay all for beru items. i let the car get to operating temp so the glow plugs had a good chance of comming out...well 3 out of 4 wouldnt budge and i didnt dare go any further without snapping one so out came the plusgas and let it soak for 15 mins and viola they came undone anyways pics
start with the scuttle panel
20180321_122957 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

then the inlet manifold took litrally 10 mins to get here
20180321_124241 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

first one came out fine, next to the new beru plug
20180321_124429 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

soaking in plusgas
20180321_130147 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

while they were soaking i found the glow plug relay above the passenger side engine mount its so much easier underneath the car
new vs old
20180321_132117 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

new one bolted in, old one had no brand new one is beru
20180321_132513 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

and back together
20180321_143043 by Chris Clarkson, on Flickr

i noticed when i changed the oil there was a leak and i found its from the sump so a few things need doing.
1.sump gasket
2.front shocks are both leaking so will replace all 4
3.brakes will need doing soon all round
4.oil leaking from inlet pipe aftter turbo

at least the car runs again
will update soon probably do the shocks next and sort the intercooler pipe leak

Looks good to me. I run an E61 diesel as a mobile shed and it's pretty good. They get a bit unreliable when they get old, but if you keep on top it of they're nice enough. Good thread smile

Very nice Clarkson. Looks great in black.

I picked up a 55 plate 320D E91 a few weeks back for £1600 and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. After just getting back from a weekend away on the coast, all I can think about is upgrading myself the 3litre equivalent.

Looking forward to seeing any future mods that you do.

(Jealous of the M3)

The first side was stuck dude I had to spray st out of it and smash the collar with a hammer but it came out after 15 mins of wiggling. second side slid out with a bit of spraybefore hand maybe the hydrolic fluid leaking kept it corrosion free lol
