6 Car history from Clio - M3

Hi all,

My first post of car history to date, currently 24:

When 17 I had a 2001 diesel Clio, no photos luckily.

After turning 18 I bought a 1.9 tdi Golf Sport:





I sold this at 19 and bought a BMW 118d M Sport, had this remapped too:



With private plate addition:



This sold at 21 for a Range Rover Sport:



Then photos with upgrades:





This sold at 22 for wanting something faster - Audi A5 3.0 tdi Quattro with a high spec:







At 23 I wanted something different from Diesels, and toyed between an Audi S5, and a Jag XKR. After viewing a few of both, I ended up buying an E92 M3:





Didn't have this long (Didn't even put my plate one)! as I bought a property, so unfortunately needed to downgrade.

Bought (3 months ago) a 2007 Audi A4 tdi s-line convertible with the highest spec going before an S4, Xenons, heated leather etc. No photos of this as its filthy but will upload when clean.

Already want something faster, eyes are on 535d M sports or possibly a 335d with a remap.

Good start at that age Jack, insurance companies must post you vasaline monthly though !

Just a bit of advice, never, ever mention 335d and remap on PH.

Wouldn't surprise me if insurance for the M3 wasn't far off the price he paid for the car.

Insurance not outrageous, everything was less than £1000 a year (with exception to the Clio and golf as that was within the first two years of driving). M3 came in at a snippet under £1000 with 7 years no claims. Running the 2.0 tdi Audi at the moment is crazy cheaper than the others however.

Correct on the Bristol locations all local to me.

some nice cars there. Really like those 3.0 tdi that was in your A5 sound really good even for being Derv still get that nice V6 rumble. M3 was stunning.

Nice little car history there. Did your E92 have the F80 M3 wheels on them? Looked quite smart actually and i'm not usually a fan of putting a newer model wheels on an older model car.

Ref the new car options, 335d or 535d are both good options. My dad had an 09 535d M Sport Touring, which was remapped, as was a seriously good all-rounder, especially for a diesel!

The A5 was a really good all rounder and pretty quick too!

As for the M3 wheels, correct they are from the F80, I think they are the same as on the new M4. I'm also not a fan of aftermarket wheels but these were added by the previous owner, they had the correct offset etc and set the car off really well when clean, fairly subtle.

Hoping to get the Audi clean this weekend.

I do like the A5, in coupe form. My mate in work has a 14 plate 2.0 TDI S-Line S-Tronic. Ignoring the typical Audi hate brigade on here, it's a really nice car. Nothing massively exciting but it looks good and is just a nice place to sit.

I've looked at A5's but, for me, the only one i really fancy is the S5 but in 4.2 N/A V8 form. Definitely one for the future but, unfortunately, not feasible for me right now! Either that or a 335i but i think the V8 wins on noise alone.

They are good looking cars, much more tasteful inside than the M3 too I think. I was within minutes of buying an S5 with a full milltek exhaust however I'm glad I didn't as it was overpriced for what it was, and with the trend of me not keeping things long I would of lost a large chunk. Prices seem to have dropped loads since I was looking to buy, a lot of car and engine for the money!!

Yeah, i'll be honest, i've never really got BMW interiors. With that being said, the M3 is a different league but obviously much pricier to buy and run. The S5 V8 with a Milltek exhaust is pure noise porn, as i believe they are quite muffled as standard. They can be had for around 10k now. I still reckon it's an absolute bargain for what you get!

I was wondering how someone that aged paid for all these nice cars then I saw a blacked out rangerover

I wish it was that easy, but unfortunately an apprenticeship and working and then self employed working a million hours a week helped some what!

All this talk about insurance costs! I thought this was Pistonheads, not Money Saving Exprert! Frankly, I couldn’t care less what it costs you to insure your cars, it’ obviously not a major stumbling block for you.

If it were me I’d probably consider a 335i over a D, but either is a sound choice. As already alluded to, don’t mention remapped 335D’s on here! You’ll soon figure out why!

Thanks! The insurance has never been outrageously expensive considering my age and the cars! Plus thats boring! Anyway I have now sold the Audi, some photos when I had it below:





During all the snow last week I bought a 2010 330i m sport coupe:



Filthy dirty in the photos as I haven't had chance to clean it yet. Its got a high spec with all the toys, just requires the 313 diamond cut alloys refurbing (unsure what to do)? and a full service next week. Its got 58k on the clock and is a much for refined drive being an auto compared to the manual M3 I had last year. Sounds ok too and without a good drive as of yet, seems to have enough grunt without being too pricey to run.
