After the first year of ownership I thought I's start this thread off.

The S1 was bought new as a logical progression from the Mk5 R32 I sadly crashed in September '16. I loved that car but the S1 addresses several of its shortcomings without too much compromise (only really rear seat space which I don't need and lack of awesome V6 sounds). The R32 drawbacks were, in no particular order:
  • looked a bit too ordinary
  • DSG worked great but I prefer manual
  • was too heavy for the torque available
  • too big to comfortably fit in my garage
  • not very tunable unless going the turbo route
  • drank fuel
  • high VED

The S1 addresses these well and also throws in better build quality, a much smarter interior, modern toys like switchable dampers and relative rarity. I also like that it has a closer connection to motorsport.

Most of the options boxes were ticked so it has the gorgeous hard backed seats and other parts that stand it out from an A1. I passed on the sunroof (seemed inappropriate) and satnav (rip-off).

The EA888 is well known for it's tunability and 320bhp is simply a remap, bigger intercooler and uprated clutch. The car is no slouch with the standard 235bhp so that increase should be plenty for my needs. Any more and the rear diff. and drive shafts can complain anyway.

It's currently a bit too quiet for my tastes so I plan a mid-silencer delete as well.

So far I have had GTechniq applied, done the almost obligatory roof and boot wrap and got a set of winter wheels and tyres. It's been an excellent addition so far and the prospects with a bit of fettling are very enticing.

Any other happy (or otherwise) S1 PHer owners out there, particularly in the North East?

Oct 2020 Update ---------------

Thought I'd update this as all the pics got lost with hosting BS.

Turbo back, sports cat Scorpion system fitted.

Sparco 18s with PS4 rubber.

Remap to 332bhp

With the big brother.

I like these and like what you've done with yours so far.

I have a Polo 6C GTI as a daily - assume these are same size / based on the same architecure but 4wd?

Thanks.

Yes, in fact a 4WD prototype of the Polo was developed which was practically a rebodied S1:

Interesting that it had DSG though, not an option on the S1.

The Polo had the WRC kudos but I guess VAG didn't think it worthwhile making both, stealing each others' sales.

A 170bhp Twingo RS rally car. Yes I love small cars I am struggling to find another car that fills the gap as the Twingo isnt used on the road now.

Yes, the wheels are nice.. But they don't suit the car at all.

Love both cars. I've always wanted a MK5 R32, so it's definitely one that i wanna tick off the bucket list. The S1 seems like a right little weapon too.

Thanks all.

I don't mind the 'wine bottles' standard wheels. I agree that the Bolas give it a more sporty, less bling look which is probably more suitable.

I'm not generally a fan of Audis, but am strangely drawn to these - and yours looked lovely. You've done it no favours with the wrap and wheels though - now looks like a 1.2 Halford's special. Sorry!

I forgot to mention why I went for that particular body colour and wrap. It is a homage to a combination of the really cool original 'A1 Quattro' limited run ancestor to the S1 and the badass S1 rallycross cars:

Yep, the wife loves it, and it's a brilliant car, it's perfect for her. I guess you ignored my 440i convertible in my profile though.....

I like your car, but I'm no fan of the mods. If you can't take anything but positive comments, perhaps you shouldn't post it up on a forum. I think it would look far better if you returned it to stock.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll enjoy it, irrespective of my opinion, I hear they're good.

My mum drives an A1 only the 1.4 turbo charged engine so 120bhp I think. It's actually a very very good small car. Even in that spec it's got plenty of good features, decent leg room for the two in the front.

My biggest criticism is that the ride quality is really bad and for the performance the car lacks, it doesn't justify it. It's the 18" rims that do it.

But, the S1 is a different story. I'd put up with the bone shaking ride for the performance and styling. Great little motor and far more preferable to the R32 in my eyes.
