My W204 Hybrid Turbo'd from Kent
Discussion
Morning All,
So did a quick thread yesterday where my work PC crashed and couldn't edit the thread.
Basically have wanted to do this write up for a week or so now but just have not had the chance.
I currently own a Mercedes C220 CDI AMG Coupe, which i picked up back in November with 45,000 miles and a FSH.
The car was completely standard when i got her all be it a wrapped front lip and stage 1 remap.

The day i picked her up, could not resist a multi story shot...
I started to order a few parts mainly handling mods, H&R 20mm hubsentric spacers, and 25mm lowering springs.
Also waiting for my V5 Document to come through the post so i could fit my Private Plates.

3D Gel Domed Resin font, credit to Demon Plates..
After around a week of having the plates fitted, i started to get bored of all the chrome on the car.
Being black, i figured the best and simplest route to go down was the murdered out approach, which was quite popular especially in America.
I took my front grill off, then started to sand it down and prime it before painting and lacquering.
Also took my rear griffin off, silver boot strip and did the same process.

Black exhaust tip..why not!

Quick photo of her back on the drive, managed to tint my rear lights too which was not too bad for a first attempt.
Eventually i was fed up with the normal derv sound, although it was never going to be a petrol i wanted more noise.
With no off the shelf systems available for the C220, i got in touch with a company called Longlife Exhausts, who was able to provide a quote.
I set out for a full 3" turbo back system, non resonated straight to the OE tip with a DPF delete, they also managed to map out the EML light which would of appeared soon as i left the workshop.
With this modification alone i had no idea how much it would help the car, it released so much more from the car especially low down, with no bogging whatsoever and its extremely loud for a Diesel on full boost.
I started to again get used to the car as it stood with the stage 1 map, and searched for what would be the best step foward.
Between me and my grandad we wrote down a list of what possible alternatives we could have, apart from selling up.
A company called AET Turbos are well known for their work on a few of my mates BMWS, as well as Turbo Dynamics.
Again with no off the shelf items at hand, the custom route was the only option.
After a lengthy phone call one evening, we decided to remove my OE Twin turbos and have them converted full hybrid turbos.
This included a new 360 degree thrust bearing, re-profiled housing, and a larger billet compressor wheel.
The good thing was where my 1st turbo is smaller, it meant the larger one would help top end, thus to prevent running out of puff.
Downside is it was more work for AET but hey ho!
A trip up to RS Tuning followed once we received the turbos back and fitted them back on the car, also managed to fit my K&N filter too.
We was all really nervous to see the outcome and results, especially being that we had to put normal Diesel in half way up to Leeds because we couldn't find a Shell garage!
Anyway..onto the good bit.
The first run on Tesco normal Diesel she hit 287bhp & 498.2 lbft of torque at the flywheel with the new custom map and gearbox map too.
Not bad considering she made 224.6bhp & 372 lbft on the stage one map...and certainly better than the 168bhp she had out the factory.

Overall i feel the car is phenomenal and just the right power now, i wouldnt want any more torque for this engine.
Summer time some R888Rs will be needed for sure, it spins in 3rd rolling and thats moderately dry.
I hope you have all enjoyed reading this, i will try my best to keep it updated weekly of my progress after work.
If anyones from kent and wants to meet up etc feel free to let me know!
Thanks guys,
Charlie

All that money spent, and you could have had a C350 cdi with 280bhp in the first place...
Then it'd just be another 350 cdi, I bet the power delivery is completely different. I like these coupes, they look pretty smart. Not a fan of murdered out look on any car.
I do like a dirty modified diesel, plenty of torque and still half sensible mpg.
Hows the gearbox with the extra power?

I'm from the generation max power where cars where made individual be people not corporations. You can buy unique cars and not many really mid them besides a remap, but modding is so much satisfication to hone the car to your tastes and requirements. It's weird how a car euthutheist site is so negative to this but I guess it is the lease generation.

All that money spent on a C350 CDI and OP could have bought an even faster car than the 350 and not modified that either? Some people actually enjoy modifying their cars. I passed my test in 2002 and enjoyed every moment of the Max Power / F&F generation of car modifying and cruises. I actually miss seeing and hearing those modified cars (even if not to my taste) as it made the roads more interesting.
As mentioned by another poster - I guess it's down to the lease generation.
Great work done so far on the car OP, keep on modifying and enjoying it!

My question sounds a bit sarcastic but it's perfectly genuine, so bear with me.You can buy unique cars and not many really mid them besides a remap, but modding is so much satisfication to hone the car to your tastes and requirements. Why a C220CDi?
Is it a case of you love to modify things and it's what you had, or is there something in particular that attracted you to the car?
I think they're a fairly smart design, but I have to admit I don't really know much about them, or modern mercs really.
Hey guys,
Sorry for the late response i had been so busy with work and the house...Appreciate the comments so thank you!
I recently purchased a set of mint original C63 18" Alloys, which i now plan to use this summer and keep my original wheels for winter.
Will still be running my 20mm spacers on the rear, but have ordered a set of 10mm H&R's too for the front.
Also decided to remove the rear tint from my lights, changed the badge back to silver and the rear boot strip too.

New AMG Mats installed on Sunday..

Needs the 220 badge on, as people would think "easy meat boggo spec diesel" and then realise its actually pretty rapid, they arent slow as standard, they move quite well but 287 bhp and all that torque must mean it really moves pretty well.
Thanks mate, i am debating to put the C220 badge on, i'm abit fussy and dont like it all cluttered up but i know what you mean.I have'nt really ran it against anything to compare yet but its defiantly a night and day difference to standard for sure
