Honda Civic Type-R (FK8)
Discussion
My first Hot Hatch, my first Honda, my first Type-R.
First impressions... I like it!!
I appreciate the looks might divide opinion (Mrs R says it looks silly) but in my view the more wings, vents and scoops the better... which is why I optioned mine with an additional high-level tailgate spoiler just incase anyone thought it looked too subtle. I also went for the interior lighting pack to get that mean and menacing red glow inside the car.
Anyhow, I took it for a blast along the back roads this morning had came back with a big grin on my face. Then in the afternoon Mrs R tootled of to Tescos in it and came back with a weeks shopping in the boot. Win /Win

Although it's going to be a sort of sensible daily driver for me I moved a couple of things around in the garage to squeeze it in for a pic alongside my Ultima and it shows what a big brute of a car it is.

Chavtastic

Shouldn't this be in the badly modified cars thread ?
Nice interior, I'm sure it goes, handles and stops well - but those looks are just, well ... horrible and cheap looking
Sorry. No offence intended.
I saw a more basic spec Civic the other day and was surprised by the amount of tat stuck to it (by the factory) - lots of cheap looking black plastic grills (which were not actually grills because they were solid and served no purpose).
Honda have surpassed themselves with this Type R.
On the positive side - that's just my opinion - I'm glad you like it.

I got to admit I prefer what went before it. But those tail pipes make me laugh.
I know it shouldnt but it bothers me that's it's been elongated and style influencede to fit the American market.
Least we've got more variety on our roads and it's not another VAG group do it all super hatch!
How do these sound as standard?

Funny thing is that I would never have bought one of the earlier FK2 models. I didn't think the front of it looked quite right and I felt like I was sitting too high. CooperS said:

Triple tailpipes seem to fit the OTT looks IMHO but to be fair, I probably preferred the quad pipe look of the FK2. I know it shouldnt but it bothers me that's it's been elongated and style influencede to fit the American market.

The sales bumph says the middle pipe plays a part in increasing and deepening the noise. It sounds far less chavy than it looks and is a bit underwhelming (unfortunately, since I'm quite partial to a bit of exhaust noise) but reading the forums it seems to be a case that it should get a bit louder after a few miles. I'm sure there are other options out there but I'll leave things as they are for a few months.

It looks utterly ridiculous...and I absolutely love it!
An absolute world away from the black/white/grey rep-mobiles you see littering the roads and I'd have one in a heartbeat.
I think an FK2 or perhaps one of these is definitely on the cards when the time comes to chop in the Focus ST
Well done on being a bit different
P.S. Great garage...love that Ultima!

I really wasn't sure on these upon release but I absolutely love them now! Great choice, I think red suits this model well.
Also in reply to your post about the fk2, I believe they're 5 door only aren't they?
Thanks and yes, sorry.. you are right. Also in reply to your post about the fk2, I believe they're 5 door only aren't they?
I've edited so I look less dumb

BTW I quite like your collection of number plates on all your cars also! RS Grant said:
Ooft, I was going to say that I'll keep an eye out for it Jim.. but if you're within visual range then I'm sure I won't miss you!!
I like the interior, I like the front, I like the profile, but I'm still unsure about the back of them.
You'll need to give me a big cheery wave to get my attention. At the moment I'm keeping my head down and avoiding eye contact with folk shaking their heads

It's funny.. I've had it for just over a week, done just over 300 miles going nowhere, and yet I already know I like it. I actually knew when I was driving it back home last week that I was going to get along with it.
For what I want from it, it has hit my sweet spot in terms of what it cost to buy, what it should cost to run, how fast it feels, how I feel about driving it and the bonus for me is that I love the OTT looks.
Contrast that with the feeling I had driving home in a previous Porsche Turbo S not that long ago where, even tho it was a different level of quality and performance again, I knew that I'd probably made a mistake.
