2001 Accord Sport, my first bangernomics...

...and I’ve probably failed already!
Yesterday I picked up this 2001 Accord 1.8 VTEC sport. It’s my first real foray into the world of bangernomics, I’ve had cheap cars before but there has been an end date where they will be surplus to requirements, this one is a keeper hopefully!
So a wee bit about the car, it’s only done 68k miles, has an MOT until this time next year, is immaculate underneath and inside. The bulkhead is solid which is a massive issue with these. There’s a bit of a leak in the boot which I haven’t had a change to look at yet but it seems to be a fairly good runner, and for this I paid the princely sum of £675...
Sounds like a good deal you might think, and it probably is, however it’s needing a clutch, not right now, but it is needing one sooner rather than later. I’ve got mates that will do it and one that even worked at a Honda dealer in the early 2000s so it should be no bother. It’s also eye-wateringly expensive to tax at £305 a year!
Needless to say I found that out after I bought it. And it was also a ball ache to insure. I’m 24, no points and live in a fairly good area, I’ve been insured with Adrian Flux for several years over a selection of fairly extensively modified Hondas but they just couldn’t be find anyone to insure me on this, and when they did it was £880! Quick look on the meerkat resulted in 3rd party fire and theft for £330 
So I suppose the question is does it still count as bangernomics if you have to encounter a big bill before you start?

It’s all relative I suppose, I had an EP3 which was moderately modified and ran 230hp on a dyno, along with chassis upgrades and brakes etc, all declared which was £790 3 years ago. So to be quoted over 800, for 3rd party was a bit frightening! HahaTam_Mullen said:

I think what is more remarkable is paying 790 on a modified Type R at 21! At 26 I was paying 880 on a stock FN2
