My £400 motor vs SWMBO's £12K Nismo

hi all, been lurking on the site mainly on the sales pages but only just signed up really after seeing a few useful threads in General Gassing, plus it'd be nice to get some additional help/advice if needed.
Start off with my car history;
I had a 125cc Motorbike until I was 20(ish) and decided i had enough of freezing my nads off in the winter and the final straw was when a bolt from the engine had popped out and it threw me off down a country lane, and decided to book in for lessons, and get my test passed.
I sorted the bike then done a straight swap for a Vauxhall Corsa B - car was immaculate albeit a little older than the bike but I was glad to get rid of it:

Was going good, had lessons, and even passed my test in it, until 6 months later i rolled it on it's roof making it a write off, gutted to say the least, went out days later and got myself a 1.4 VW POLO

I turned it into a GTI replica, so it had everything from the lights to the interior, the only thing missing was the 1.6 engine. Had that a few years until the clutch went and gearbox went for a second time...kept that on my drive until i decided what to do with it meanwhile I bought myself - now bare with me i only wanted something cheap to run/tax & insure:
that's right a Peugeot 107 - basic of basics but it got me to shows/work etc untl wanted something a little quicker...
and this is my favourite car I've owned to date 1.4tsi 180bhp standard.
Sadly had to get rid last year, as the timing chain/belt had gone and screwed all the bottom engine, managed to get £1800 for it, and bagged myself a cheap (my current car) motor just for now 1.3 Ford Fiesta:
Like I say it's just a gap stop car which isn't bad for £450.
On the other hand missus only passed her test 3 nearly 4 years ago and she saved like mad to get this as her first car (as she liked them)

As that was needing a bit of work / getting tatty, and we agreed she'd have the next new car, she decided she wanted an upgrade and she had her eyes on a Juke but specifically the Nismo - Awesome little motor
So that's it for now, although I will be looking at either one of these end of the year / next year:

Nice introduction OP. 
You were unlucky with your Skoda, but at least Fiestas of that era handle really well - even if the drivetrain isn't the most refined!
Good luck with the 370Z plans.
Have you thought about a Toyota GT86? Not nearly as powerful as a 370Z, but they handle really well and are probably quite a bit cheaper to run.
I test drove one 4 years ago and really liked it, but still ended up buying a BMW Z4 Coupe.
You were unlucky with your Skoda, but at least Fiestas of that era handle really well - even if the drivetrain isn't the most refined!

Thank you Mr Tidy, and I was very unlucky, was a decent car, surprised quite a lot of people, and yeah Fiesta's a good cheap work horse so I can't complain.You were unlucky with your Skoda, but at least Fiestas of that era handle really well - even if the drivetrain isn't the most refined!

haha might have to be a the 350z at this rate those 370's are a little out my price but who knows
and I'm not a fan of the GT86, plus want to keep it Nissan, and match the better half
The Z4's are an awesome little motor, would love one myself especially the coupe.

Brilliant albeit a little thirsty..£65 for a full tank, agree with the small boot. Got everything on it and the autobox (CVT) is brilliant, don't even know it's changing gear. Sport mode is immense, personally there's not much difference between the Nismo & Nismo RS, probably 20bhp more, and Bucket seats I couldn't justify that extra cost, but each to their own Edited by JDM_Fiesta on Thursday 5th April 11:49
