Octavia VRS

Couldn’t take the Citroen DS3 anymore and doing 80miles a day it wasn’t wearing very well. So started looking for something nicer and faster with similar mpg, oh and I want to put my bike in the back. The Octavia VRS was the car I wanted and it had to be Diesel and with the DSG gearbox. This was the lowest miles on Autotrader at 19k but was six hours away in Bolton! So time for a road trip. Love the car

I do like these. I'd have one in green if I needed a daily but I'd avoid diesel.

The Octavia vRS hatch is such a great practical car. I meant to get one when I changed jobs and lost the company car perk, somehow I got a diesel Mazda 6 tourer diesel instead. Last September the lease offers on the 245vRS Octavia’s were too good to miss, so I didn’t. Filling up every 300/350 miles instead of 600+ is a bit of a chore, but so worth it!

I had one of these and it was a decent car, worse bits were the audio quality on the infotainment system and the general level of sound deadening needed improving, otherwise good.

Got a manual diesel estate currently as a company car. I was quite blasé about it at first (just another variation on the warm VAG diesel theme) but it has grown on me a lot, loads of space for passengers, loads of carrying ability, engine is very quiet and it rides well (even in 19s).
Overall it is a fairly understated but rather capable car.

Well worth remapping- assume it’s the same 184ps motor as the Golf GTD?

We looked at these before plumping for the Golf- but my Mrs reckoned it wasn’t half as pretty by comparison. Have to say I agree...

Proportions are a bit odd & looks somewhat under-wheeled.

I have one of these but the estate (I prefer the look of the estate).

Mine has been on the JKM rollers and was running 195bhp as standard, I've since got a DTUK tuning box and it's transformed it. I'm expecting about 230bhp next time its on the rollers.

I have one as well a '15 217hp Tsi estate with dsg , had it three years and no plans to change its been good

Mine made 242hp on the dyno at my old work which was surprising , its quick enough for a daily and does around 35mpg on Vpower so didnt feel the need for a diesel

Have the Canton upgraded audio on mine with the upgraded sat nav so the sound is excellent

Nice cars.....our diesel DSG estate went back last week as it wasn't big enough for our needs to be replaced with a Touareg.

They definitely benefit from a Remap or Tuning Box though. I put a DTUK Tuning Box on ours as soon as it had done 500 miles and it made a massive difference.

Never used DTUK before, but the Touareg will definitely be getting one too.

Incidentally, if you were interested, I'll be selling the tuning box from our Octavia.

I've been running a VRS TDI Estate for over one year and really love it. My previous motor was a 430d so step down in power but in all honesty you just need to put you foot down further. Ave 50mpg and 30K miles.

Its so spacious and that makes it one the of perfect family wagons. The car is also well screwed together more so than the BMW. The info system is excellent and very user friendly.

While it is well screwed together the downside is some of the materials aren't as hard wearing as the VW's or BMW. Hence the price!
Also road noise is high especially with 19" rubber but not too intrusive. The 19" rims are harsh.
I think these need to be on 18" wheels, with spacers and slightly lowered. The latest Octavia is slightly better proportioned but uglier.

Yes I’ve noticed the road noise on certain surfaces is very high, think a tyre upgrade will be in order at some point.
