Was originally running my fabia as a daily and a ignis sport as a track day/weekend toy.

Unfortunately the fabia began to become the subject of vandalism and was sold last week and the ignis only made the first shake down session and engine let go.

I've managed to pick up a 2007 swift 1.5vvt for £120 with the clutch gone. So that will become the daily once I've done a few other bits to it. The bodywork isn't the best so I'm not overly bothered if the vandalism starts again.

The clutch was properly dead!

My ignis was broken for bits made a good amount and seen another ignis local. I'll update about the ignis tomorrow as there's been quite a bit happening with that already. It's being used as a daily at the minute now the fabia has sold and the swift isn't quite ready yet.

So picked up my ignis after a tip off from a mate. It was on gumtree for a bargain price. The owner had struggled to fix a running issue and as such car was listed as a non runner.

Car arrived originally to break as I had great success breaking my red one. Once it was on the ramp at work it was clear it was a clean honest example underneath and the plan was hatched to get it out on the track. I figured that if I run out of talent my initial outlay can be recouped by breaking it.

The non running issue was traced to new faulty cam and crank sensors. These have been replaced with used genuine items and all running issues have been resolved

From the first post I sold my fabia and the swift isnt quite ready to take on daily duties yet so ignis was pressed into daily duties. Lasted 100 miles and the exhaust fell off.

Put the tanabe stainless rear section on and its quite civilised now.

I've given it a clean and it's come up quite well. The big plans will have to wait till the swift hits the road then there's a few jobs I will be undertaking to prepare the ignis for a hard life

Good luck with round 2! Kept an eye on on round 1 and it was a always a good read.
I always keep an eye out for a ignis sport but never see any up my way that aren't rough.
Loved the S1600 version!

I know very little about the Ignis, please don’t read this as a dig, genuinely interested in what the appeal is? Must have slipped under my radar (I can talk I’ve bought/stripped/destroyed four xsara vtss over the years, sometimes something just grabs you about a car, keen to find out what it is about these)

Cheers Ivor

Like a Swift, but smaller and cheaper. Was featured as a Shed Of The Week a few years ago:

Thank you avenger! Money and free time will determine how far I get to take the ignis track wise. Pipe dream would be a cheap z31 swift sport in black, use the body panels, interior etc on my daily swift and dump the running gear into the ignis running the m16 for a bit more grunt. Possibly even squeeze some evo 8 enkeis in the arches if possible.

No offence taken world would be a boring place if we all liked the same things. Main reason originally was cost. You will struggle to find a car under 1k that is a riot to drive from factory, costs peanuts to run. You can kick it's head in md still get mid 40mpg.

It reminds me in many ways of my old ax gt. If you unplug the abs unit. It's just you and the car. It's light, has a revvy twincam Jap engine and a short ratio box. The rear end can be made to be very lively if that's your thing. If the mood takes you, you can literally have it dancing around underneath you and it's so controllable.

There's enough grunt to keep you entertained but not enough to get you in trouble.

Last one is the Facebook owners club tbh. It's the friendly car group I've ever come across literally no nob heads at all. When my silver one went I had every intention of not driving another as I had got mine to the stage I felt it was complete as a daily. Sounds a bit geeky but just being around people who drive them there enthusiasm for the car is infectious makes you want another

Swift is now in daily action and has covered 150 miles under its own steam. Car now owes me £260 including car purchase. That's for the clutch kit, tyre and two rear wheel bearings.
Rear brakes had been incorrectly assembled and have now been rectified and adjusted up accordingly.
Next outlay will be two front arms.
Further down the line a good service and investigate camshaft solenoid fault. Rear brake pipes.
Bodywork is scruffy with dents and marks everywhere. I'm is to see out 100k and reassess currently sits on 82k miles.

Seems like bargain motoring for something so fun. I love my Citroën AX for exactly the same reasons....

Really impressed that you managed to pick up an Ignis so cheap - the only one I ever looked at was strong money for something with a borked gearbox....

Good luck with take 2,

Cheers,
Tom

The ignis has been put in my lock up now. I can run the swift for time being. Not to bothered about the bodywork but the mechanical side of it will be hopefully upto scratch this weekend

I'll give the interior a good clean. Might even throw a sponge at the outside

Ok.... Well swift is in daily use now. Covered 300 miles. Ordered a service kit for it as the air filter was black and the blowers didn't blow any air out. Checked pollen filter and it was original suzuki item like black sludge.

Pollen filter replaced. Now blows good amount of air out the vents.

Throws eml light when being driven. Fault code was p0010 which is vvt solenoid. I've removed this off my old ignis engine and looking at it. There is a fine mesh filter in the solenoid. I'm expecting to find this blocked with sludge as the oil isn't pretty. That being's us onto the oil....... Had to put 2.7l of oil in to bring it upto the max line. Have new filter to do oil change and will swap vvt solenoid over.

Sounds sad but I really enjoy the fettling aspect these days.

Other items to note is something is knocking on front suspect suspension arm bushes are dead. Will order them this week. All in it owes me £280 so far. If I can get it mechanically sound for £400 I'll be over the moon!

THE END

Short and sweet.

Swift was sold yesterday I did 2.5k miles in it. Truth be told I never bonded with it. I saw the swift as a modern day ignis with a little more comfort. Truth is it did neither very well at all. Engine was sluggish and the road/wind noise was horrendous. the enevitable gain in weight meant it lost its nimbleness.

A fairer comparison would of been against the swift sport but I can't see the ride being any comfier in the sport to the glx spec and that was the aim something a bit more comfier

Had it approx 2 months and it went for £550 for a quick sale.

I've gone back to what I seem to know best and bought another ignis sport to get me through the winter.
