I like early Japanese tin. I didn't really want to add something else old to the collection of other old things that I really should be working on, however, I like early Japanese tin!
This old girl is now in my collection to play around with.
It smells a bit of old people, has a few dents, needs a bit of a tidy up and has had some welding on a sill and suspension mounts, but it's a survivor at least.
My friend 'popped' up to Yorkshire from Kent and grabbed it for me today.
Check out the Grandpa style edge repair on the parcel shelf (quite a cool shelf as it happens as it splits two ways). It looks like rubber door trim to me. Discovered a few spares in the boot, too..
Headlamp adjustment knob I assume. No messing!
No air bags here..
Original speakers were at the ends of the dash, so someone has cut the cards and done their own thing.
Square was the order of the day..
The throbbing 1.3(ish) engine. I have already been told to stick my V70R lump in it..

Owned one of these back in the day in same spec except that mine was white and had a blue fabric sunroof that opened up from the front to the back of the roof. Don't know if that was factory or retrofitted at the time but it was what I loved most about the car. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures. Great cars. Very practical and reliable. Timing belt went unfortunately and that was the end of our adventure......Reg KYF8X. I loved the number plate too!
It also turns out after a wee test drive that it's not an auto, auto!
The Hondamatic box is more like a semi-auto / clutchless manual / CVT affair. It shows L, * (star), OD, N, P and R
You slide the stick into L if on steep hills etc and then into * (a star shape I had assumed was some form of Winter mode as it looks like a snowflake) and this is then a form of second and third ratios which it can remain in most of the time and it doesn't change up or down even from slow speeds to higher speeds. You just put your foot down, speed increases, but there are no evident changes!
OD is selected for overdrive and N, P & R are quite self-explanatory.
So, it would appear you either creep about on the star setting (there is no 'D' for drive), never really feeling a gear change and having to touch nothing, or you bang the stick into L at junctions etc for a better takeoff and then flick up and down to suit in a form of manual mode.

I like the idea, but it probably won't remain standard given the club I am involved with.We have already had a poke around underneath and test fitted a wheel
Mind you, I doubt there will be much done to it that isn't reversible.
Not the most complicated exhaust system in the world..
