Picked this up last few days. This is the 5.5 na engine. Nothing outlandish spec wise but has things I will appreciate such as cooled seats
I looked at 4 and this was the nicest. Previous owner had it over three years so I felt happy it had been cared for and I was happy with a private purchase
A 63amg would have been nice but this one has the body kit and isn't exactly slow so I convinced myself that the condition/low mileage/price worked in its favour.
It's pretty much like new inside with just a little stretch on the drivers seat. Quality is very good although there is the odd creak and I am surprised how cheap the plastics around the bottom of seats is. Seems picky but I was looking for what £100k gets you lol.
I'm also a little surprised how the car reacts to sunken manholes etc. I think Jaguar etc on 20" wheels handles dodgy roads better
Was out today in heavy rain and felt the rear moving about over manholes and off roundabouts even though I was going steady but I'm putting that down to cheap rear tyres that the dealer fitted 3 years ago. Hopefully when I change these it will be better.
Overall though I'm happpy with my purchase and looking forward to senior exec motoring!

On your comment on manhole covers... I think its just a quirk of the ABC, It felt exactly as you described on my last CL C215 and my current C216.. despite being perfectly set up tyre and suspension wise.

So do we think the back tyres might not be to blame?
When doing say 40mph on a gradual bend if I went over a drain cover or similar the back would skip a bit. Not confidence inspiring.
A bit like run flat tyres can do??
I’ve also spotted a very slight flat spot on one front wheel although I don’t have vibration.

It could be, I bought my XKR and spent the first 12 months driving around with similarly unsettling movement in the rear, It would 'squirm' when hitting the gas and wander around on uneven motorway surfaces. Someone had fitted 295 Pirellis, the wheel width should have been fitted with 285s.When doing say 40mph on a gradual bend if I went over a drain cover or similar the back would skip a bit. Eventually I had them replaced with 285 wide, 'J' rated Dunlops as per OEM specification and it totally transformed the rear handling removing all the wierd behaviours making the car totally stable and predictable as you would expect it to be.
My Boxster had squirm over bumps/manholes after a suspension refresh but before a 4 wheel alignment. The rears were well off where they should be and hence the car trying to steer me off the road! Completely cured and feels much better all round after the alignment.
Worth having it checked and set up even if just to get the most life out of the no doubt expensive new tyres to come. I wonder if the post regarding change from 295 to 285 profile was also accompanied by an alignment adjustment?

really beautiful cars... a proper gentleman's cruiser, perhaps moreso than the conti gt which has become a little vulgar and chav around the edges.
i came very close to buying one two years ago, but chickened out on account that i knew they would depreciate to nothingness (they were still around £20k for a nice one) and were massively difficult to sell on (i was looking at the same cars still for sale for months on end). bought a 997 in the end which is still worth about the same now as i was when i bought it.
if i take all of the above out of the arena, to be honest i would actually prefer to be driving around in that CL rather than the 911.
once they drop below £10k for a good one, i might have a go as an airport car. i did similar with a CLS500 (with AMG kit) and absolutely loved it...

Are they standard?
4 wheel alignment is definitely a good shout and some Michelin super sports to match the front too I think
The tyres are standard 35 profile
I'm hoping of course that the reliability will be good. The previous owner had no trouble in his 3 yrs apart from the music amp going which has been repaired last week as I was buying. It went off to BBA. Cost £230 including p&p both ways. All done in a week
I checked the ABC oil which is nice and clean so hopefully good for a bit.
I'll probably get the gearbox oil changed because I can't find mention of it in the history printouts.
I must admit it's nice to drive something a bit rare. In the 3 weeks since I started searching for one I haven't seen another on the road.

More observations on the battery
A couple of times the seats haven't moved forward electrically when trying to get in the back,including this morning.
One worked this afternoon. Then both this evening..
I've done around 100 miles today so would expect the battery to have received a boost.
I wonder if the cars ECU directs power away from non essential items if the battery is low? I'm sure this is a feature on some cars.
Hopefully that's it and nothing wrong with seats
Need to sort exhaust now. The previous owner had the standard back boxes modded for more noise but I'm not keen. I like to hear a car but it has to be the right noise. I don't think I'll easily get hold of a standard exhaust so I guess it will have to be custom but subtler

Beware of the timing chain stretching on these. Regarding the music amp I have found unplugging all the units in the fibre optic loop and starting the car would ‘reset’ the system. Plugged back in it all works fine. Seems to get thrown when the car has any work done requiring battery disconnection or diagnostics. Otherwise a great car.
