So after a couple of years in lease cars, both good cheap deals at the times, Corsa VXR and then a Golf R estate it was time for a change and some cheap yet fun driving for a year or two.

Picture below if the corsa and golf, both great cars in different ways. The golf was probably the most capable car I’ve ever owned or been in on a day to day basis.




The BMW has been my brothers for the previous couple of years, prior to that it was owned by a lady and the first keeper was The F1 group according to BMW records.

My brother had the clutch, water pump and a few other bits sorted in his ownership and it never missed a beat. Albeit whilst it was getting good mechanical care it never received any form of cleaning bar a couple of cheap and cheerful hand car washes.

Prior to purchase I bought a set of staggered MV2’s as the stock wheels, Style 89’s, were awful, although the ride was lovely and soft of them! So a Saturday morning of cleaning ensued and it came pretty much back to life!









Annoyingly the car doesn’t have any cup holders so I have ordered the BMW offering which replaces a compartment near the handbrake and I need to investigate the rear parking sensors not working, one of the sensors doesn’t click. So think it may be at fault?

Either way it drives nicely and makes a nice noise, just need some good weather to get the roof down now!

It's about £90 for the parts to convert the center console to a cupholder setup, and they do warn you about it cause you've got the armrest.

However it only covers the rearmost cup holder, and still very much usable. You'll also need to get the coin holder as well or there's a gap.

Generally a non clicking sensor means the sensor, as you say, although one easy test before buying a new sensor is to switch a good sensor and the bad around. This will narrow down whether it's a sensor or loom. A temporary measure I found worked (for a short time on my E39) was to give the sensor a good squizz of WD40 and wipe with a cloth. It can temporarily revive them so you don't get that annoying beeeeeeep!
