1979 Chrysler Avenger
Discussion
After looking for something in the Hillman/Chrysler/Talbot range for a while and an empty garage to put it in this came up for sale an hour away from me.
Saying to the good lady “I’m just going to have a look” we set off.
A couple of hours and a test drive later the deposit was paid and it was on my drive the following week.
It needs a few minor jobs doing on the cosmetic side but it passed its mot a couple of weeks ago with only two advisories.
No idea why that is upside down, clearly I’m better with spanners rather than technology
Just over 58000 miles and that old style smell to it

No plans other than changing the wheels as it is too original to mess with

Wow, not seen one of these for ages, my dad and uncle used to buy and sell cars in the late seventies and early eighties* and it was always, a Cortina, Viva, Chevette, Marina or Avenger.
Not a bad looking car really, though like Maserati 3200's the earlier ones had prettier Hockey Stick back lights
so its basically a Maserati.

Wasn't that a runout model called the Sunseeker?
I seem to remember a brochure with the two door shell, weird half a vinyl roof, etc.
My dad had numerous Avengers.
Looks almost like they stopped applying it halfway through. Nice car though - the everyday stuff from that era is now almost as rare as the performance or exotica cars, and for me just as interesting. I have a random childhood memory of being taken to a monster truck show, which I envisioned being in a massive stadium like you get in the USA, but instead it was a damp field and they squashed one just like that.I seem to remember a brochure with the two door shell, weird half a vinyl roof, etc.

My dad had one as well, same colour, but no vinyl roof or chrome... CSG344L... funny what you remember. On the second day it burst a heater hose, and filled the footwells with water. Soon after got sideswiped by a lorry and the wheel nuts destroyed the rear wing and door. The repair paint job was considerably better than the original on the other side. If was a decent motor for the time though.
