Audi S1 Sportback, Quattro

Hi All!

Just recently purchased an Audi S1 Sportback in Sepang Blue to replace my 2011 daily driver Ford Ka

First thing I must say, is that the aggression this little thing has is unreal with 370 NM of torque! Quattro system helps it get off the line fast, corners superbly and can cruise when you want it to with no effort. Its a 6 speed manual and has Heated Seats, Sat Nav, Quattro Exterior pack, ambient lighting, auto lights and wipers!

We looked at Mini's, BMW and Jaguar but the little S1 in blue kept catching my eye!

Currently returning 30 mpg! but I have only had it a few days, so still playing with it. Makes a nice playmate for the VX220

Nice car. I had one for a few months (similar spec to yours but a three door in red).

I'd agree with your comments, a nice punchy engine gets it down the road very quickly indeed. In typical fast VAG style though I found the depths of its ability / character to be limited and it was ultimately a little numb so it was moved on sharpish.

Great little cars - congrats OP.. I purchased a 2 door version in Sprint Blue (thought it was Nogaro) back in November which seemed to have every extra box ticked. We had an A1 in the family as a pool car and just decided to upgrade to the S1. It does add a little more aggression over the A1.

I know they are not the last word in dynamics, however it is such a great package. It certainly has more steering feel then most Audi's and it feels very planted. Superb build quality, nice interior with those extras, small enough to park in most car park spaces..It really is an all-season little weapon! Enjoy!

I seen one of these doing 4wd donuts in an Ikea carpark one night and since then I've had a newfound respect for the S1, surprised there aren't more around.

I'm swaying towards one of these - my last foray into a small AWD hatchback was a VR6 powered A3. That was quirky and handled really badly - the understeer was terrible - so won't be too disappointed with an S1 . I also don't want 300+bhp or to attract the sort of bell-ends who make Golf R ownership perilous.

An E92 M3 preceded it, followed by an E91 330d Touring (as I was doing mega miles) .... now in a BMW M2.

As you can probably tell by that list I'm not really an 'Audi' man!

I find fast-VAG car comments lke "I found the depths of its ability / character to be limited" to be the biggest circle-jerk in car enthusiast territory. In 15 years time, the exact people that drone on about how numb the fast VAG cars are will be reminiscing about how good those fast VAG cars with petrol engines were, now all we have is electric.

I'm not sure what a 'circle-jerk' is but I can only offer my personal opinion based on owning two S-Model Audis. I admit in the statement above I've extended this limited experience to cover all fast VAG cars based on tenuous experience (passenger rides and media / owner opinions). I don't think this link is a stretch too far though as many share very similar platforms.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the S1 and it had a lot going for it but it didn't do enough of the good stuff for me, hence it didn't remain in my ownership very long.

I really love the wee car, I don't have much interest in tuning it as she is quite a good balance between fast and comfortable just now!

I really rate these little cars and often wax lyrical about them. If you want small/fun/fast/capable (and works in poo weather) they're tough to beat.

Only reason I didn't buy one myself is size.

thanks very much! They are really good in all conditions like you said! I was a bit hesitant as well with the size, its only a 2 seater in the back. But feels bigger to drive the more you get used to it!
