2015 VW Tiguan 2.0 TDI (no more sheds... for now)

Well. After after driving sheds all my life I've finally bit the bullet and bought a sensible modern car. I've never really been a fan of modern cars, I've held an archaic belief that they (as well as other appliances) are built to a price whereas they used to be built to a standard. Couple the fact that there is so much to go wrong in modern cars that when things do eventually start to wrong they have a trend to do so in a domino like fashion.

This makes me sound very odd, old and cantankerous and at the age of 32, out of touch as my friends remind me but I always see them with their 'rentals' and being in a perpetual cycle of (debt) trading them in every few years instead of just paying them off because they 'don't want to deal with repair costs and mot's' I guess it's just more convenient to just throw them away and get new ones which is an example of our society really.

Anyway leaving my rant and onto my competent, safe, dependable new car.


(Peak District)

This is a car of many firsts for me.. Functioning air con, cruise control, parking sensors, park assist, self parking! Also no handbrake!



Gripes consist of the boot being a bit too small considering it's an MPV.



Yeh I can push the rear seats forward a bit to give me a bit more boot room but it could be better. We nearly had a Kuga but after the test drive it just felt so much heavier and clunky than the Tiguan but then again I'm biased for VWs anyway.

So the main reason for buying (financing) this was the kids really. Now on my 3rd child who is 4 months old, a 50 mile commute to boot so I needed something safe and dependable. Having had big break downs with 2 of my last 3 cars due to a mixture of neglect from PO's and just rotten luck it was on the cards really (which kinda makes me sound like I'm contradicting my earlier statement) I was just tired of playing cheap shed roulette when my job and family are concerned.

Yeh my older kids love the new car but it just misses one crucial ingredient for me... Character. That irrational trait petrol heads require. My £550 berlingo had character, even my 406 had character to a lesser extent but the Tiguan? It just doesn't make me feel anything really but I guess as a family wagon it doesn't need to. That may change with time.

Bought the car at the end of march, its been good but I've discovered a few issues (more on that in a bit). A good job I've got 2 years mechanical warranty and 2 years road tax. After a few good days out

What he doesn't tell you though is how long it takes! A good 6 hours with a few breaks in between.

Anyway the issues, vibration through the steering wheel under heavy braking (most likely a warped disc) and the more troubling one which is a low frequency drone when you take your foot off the clutch pedal which occurs intermittently. So it's going back to Arnold Clark on Wednesday to have these issues diagnosed.
