Hello car nuts.
Many moons ago I owned for approximately six months arguably the greatest hot hatch of them all.............205 GTI 1.9 I had yearned to own one for many years and it lived up to the my expectations and more. It was a great car and I truly loved it.
Unfortunately my driving skills were about zero (not much has changed here) and I hadn’t heard of lift off over steer. I flipped the car and the dream was over, maybe if I had the car for longer I may have got bored of it or out grown it. But this never happened.
Every time I see one now I go giddy in the knees and one day I hope to have one in the garage again.
The strange thing is ever since owning the Pug no car had ever lived up to it and I’ve been for ever chasing “The Car” ever since. Fast forward 20 years with my 40th Birthday in sight it’s time for an early birthday present aka the mid life crisis according to the missus. I spy a Black Vee on my standard daily search of Autotrader PistonHeads classifieds. At the time I was driving a mark 7 Golf R, a very very capable car and best all rounder I have owned, but the lack of connection and fake internal sound left me wanting something more raw especially as it was my weekend car.
I did some home work, spoke in depth to some of the guys on v6clio.net which was invaluable and booked a test drive.
I will always remember the trader asking me have I ever driven on before just as I started the engine. I looked over my shoulder Thinking the boot was open no no no the engine is behind me. Two minutes in and I was sold, back to the garage and the deal was done.
The car was in good order, standard apart from the Janspeed exhaust but it had only covered 500 miles or so in the previous five years so I booked it in with Mark Fish motor sport for a service, cam belt and general health check etc etc. For the record thoroughly nice chap and would recommend!
My first and touch wood only issue was the starter motor giving up the ghost just before going into Mark. Apart from that it’s been mechanically sound.
What can I say about it, well it’s an event every time you go out in it. People always come over to have a look and chat. Recently I went to a car meet and it was parked next to a gt3, 430 and 812 the Vee was got the most attention.

I don’t plan to do any mods apart for the clear engine cover and front splitter I’ve already added. Oh and I do love my retro air freshener.
There you have it I finally found The car to match the dizzy nights of my Pug.

You never know it may not take me another two years to get my second PistonHeads post one here.

Lovely car OP. thumbup

Looking back you have to wonder who decided they ought to build them - I can't see a company like Renault ever doing it again! laugh

Great cars! Once we were lucky enough to have a series 1 and a series 2 in the works car park, both incredible vehicles, but the series 2 seemed more civilized!

Great car, rare as, not seen one in the flesh for years.

I also have a soft spot for the Pug 1.9, it was the first car I had a crash in as a passenger hehe walked away without a scratch too.

I walked away with a slight concussion but not a scratch. Still miss that car. I paid £1550 for it. God knows what it would be worth now 🤕

Today myself and my youngest were up early to head over to the castle in Great Leigh’s for the breakfast club meet. On the way there I spotted a newly fledged Jackdoor in the middle of the road. It didn’t move I swerved to miss it. Crunch goes wheel.
The baby bird survived in tact, my wheel not so much frown.
On the plus side some cracking cars at the meet.
Onwards and upwards.

Being in the midst of an imminent house move my number one priority (or so I’m told by the boss) is packing, therefore my spare / recreation time is currently very limited. My options are to wash and polish the Vee then put it back in the garage. Or take it for a spin.
I don’t enjoy it being filthy but I cant see the dirt when I’m going on the weekend hack. Next week it will be washed well maybe..........

Fue Orange are like proper old school air fresheners, just a bit of old school for the old school car (although they’re older than the Clio for sure)

Great car OP, looks ace.

Ahh I see! I was struggling because the Feu Orange wasn’t available in 2004

I did have one in my retro 1995 Clio a few years ago along with a Garfield window toy and RAC tax disc as they were all period.

Yeah I had fUe orange in my cortina,
Great car op a mate had one damaged chassis where he went sideways and hit the wheel on something that didn’t move ,that was many years ago not sure if it’s still in garage as at the time the repair was a bit expensive

The air freshener has no connection to the Clio but my first car memory was sat in my friends mums Morris minor and just being fascinated by it and I thought the retro feel suited the car. Simple things spin
How are you getting on with the Vee?

Ahhh totally getcha now. I thought you'd bought it as a 'period piece' as opposed to the sentimental value of it. As I say I got one a while back from eBay for £20 or so which is ridiculous really but I needed to complete the look.

Well, the Vee hasn't really turned a wheel since I bought it because I'm not working at the moment so I've SORNed the Vee and the Evora and just drive about in my Focus. Each have their own Readers Cars threads actually.

I've just bought some OEM Renault mats for the Vee from eBay for £22 (link here if anyone is interested) to spruce it up a bit but other than that there's not much planned for it apart from some new Michelins for the rear. Next year it'll need a cambelt and the dephasers done at some point

They're blooming great though aren't they?!

Yeah they are ALOT of fun not like anything I’ve driven before. A year in and still not bored.

Those mats are spot on I’ve been looking to get a new set the ones I have a pretty crap I’m going to order a set on pay day bow

I gave it a well needed wash today, as I was putting it away it dawned on me I’ve not seen it with the fog light on.
