FK8 Civic Type R, astonishing machine
Discussion
Picked up my Grey Type R yesterday, been driving it everywhere and I don’t want to get out of it. Never in my life have I driven something as brilliant and as satisfying as the Type R, it sounds brilliant, extremely fast and more comfortable than the 4 series it replaced.
This car turns heads everywhere you go and they’re never negative, I’ve had nothing but praise from the car from everyone I’ve showed, including my friends who called it a ‘virgin mobile’ after seeing pictures of it but they changed their minds when they saw it in person.
I don’t modify cars but I had a lot of plans to modify the FK8 I got as I felt like it needed spacers and the exhaust needed changing as it was too quiet, a long with a few other bits and pieces to get right but after 2 days, I don’t need to spend a single penny. The test drive I had was in a 500 mile FK8 and it sounded very poor but I bought mine at 9k miles and it’s a lot louder, more deeper, in a good way. Love the rev matching, makes a nice noise when you drop into second.
Right now I’m full of praise as it is the honeymoon period but I can’t find anything to fault it with, sure there infotainment is nothing like the idrive in my 4 series but it never was going to be and I just use apple play so it makes no difference.
This car is a keeper, I’ll report back with more thoughts and observations. In the meantime, any fellow FK8 owners want to give me some tips or some advice....or just want to talk about it as I’m full of words!

I've got the previous version in the same colour. I'm at one of those positions in life where changing cars isn't op of the priority list but I don't think I've ever kept a car for this long-3 years now.
It is just so good at everything it does, a total masterpiece. I can only imagine that this version (the better one) is in some way even better!

Love the colour. Looks a tiny bit underwheeled but that is nitpicking by me. Enjoy!
The funny thing is that they’re 20’s! Wouldn’t think it while driving though, rides beautifully, even in R+ mode, stiff but bearable as you feel connected to the road and involved unlike my BMW on it’s runflats, bumpy and skittish without the benefits of being sharp and composed.Julian Thompson said:
Looks mega! Love the colour also. My favourite front driver!
Thanks ! The colour was actually a compromise as I wanted either a championship white or the black but I started looking for one a month ago this one had been on sale since the start (it was over priced), in the end, no decent deal could be had and the PX on my car was too low so I ended up selling it and offering 24,500 for my one and the deal was done. Very glad as the colour is fantastic in the sun, doesn’t attract the attention of a white one and the colour is easier to maintain than a black one. Happy days, 3k saving, 5 year service pack and a colour I’m truly happy with!

The residuals on your model are frankly ridiculous, 40k mile 15 plates going for 18k minimum, not even half the cars original value. I started a thread on here asking if I should save the money and go for FK2 but in the end, there wasn’t a big enough difference to go for the older model. That’s speaking volumes about the FK2!It is just so good at everything it does, a total masterpiece. I can only imagine that this version (the better one) is in some way even better!

Agree with pretty much everything bar one small detail OP, personally I think they sound f
king awful
even worse than the new Focus RS awful.
Well my car before this was a diesel and I forgot how my old EP3 sounded so this sounds more than good enough for me.
king awful
even worse than the new Focus RS awful. I’ve heard a few of the new Focus RS’s and I actually think they sound worse, too many pops and bangs, it looks like they’re overdoing it. I still haven’t heard my Civic make as much as a burble from the exhaust which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. You can tell The FK8’s engineers wasted no time on things like that and decided to make sure the car doesn’t torque, it’s magic !
I have the same year OP but in Championship White
Funny you say you like the sound, its far too quiet for me so have just ordered a Remus after hearing one at JDM show at the weekend

I was tossing up between the FK2 or the FK8, but I always wanted the older machine ever since I saw it, but the FK8 has been a very slow grower, looks-wise. I wasn't disappointed at all, well, apart from the infotainment system, which is complete cobblebobbins.
I have driven both, the FK2 feels rawer, more edgy but the FK8 is the more capable machine. I like the fact it's harder, no comfort mode and metal in the seat bolsters instead of rigid foam. Plus the analogue rev counter and the fact it has 12 actual LED lights on the shift light display in green, amber & red like a race car, rather than rendered LCD ones on the new Type R. Just little bits like that appeal to my inner child
.
I think they are both fabulous cars and I'll most likely plop myself into the newer one in a year or two when my mum has had enough of trying to get out of mine and I'm in need of the (very good) comfort mode.
Enjoy yours, love the colour.

Thanks! I actually remember the older one feeling quicker than the FK8 when I drove it, was very brutal and I nearly crashed it as I floored it round a bend, the salesman shat himself and went crazy at me hahah!I was tossing up between the FK2 or the FK8, but I always wanted the older machine ever since I saw it, but the FK8 has been a very slow grower, looks-wise. As I said, I would have gone for the older one but there wasn’t much difference in price to warrant the change.
For what it’s worth, I’ve been in R+ mode the whole time since I bought it, used comfort mode once or twice but remembered I’m driving a 316 bhp hot hatch not a Mercedes S-class and put it straight in R+ mode, all waffle that if I’m honest
