Mk2 Golf GTI - back on the road

Hi All,

After a 5 year lay up the Golf, which I've had for 15 years is back on the road, after extensive servicing, recommisioning and lots of new components and parts....

.... In fact you could buy a tatty one for the amount I have just spent 😂🤣😂

Anyway, I am getting excessive steering wheel sake at any speed above 75mph.....it does not vanish after a certain speed.

Does this mean it could be tyre flat spots or could the wheels need rebalancing?

That's superb! 5 door is the best. I have very fond memories of mine - H reg, 5 door 8v in bright blue metallic.

You need set of original teardrops or steel pepperpots....!

The hideous / heavy wheels won't help

The quickest option is to stick each on a balancing machine and it'll be obvious if there's a problem

(Or buy a decent set)

Here’s my 16v gti - owned it twice, just sat on drive asleep.

Need to get it back to oe spec - with correct suspension and new tyres £££££

Had a few of these, won one aged 18 in a Daily mirror competition as well

I loved them wonder what, after 350 plus bhp cars would they still feel quite quick, like they used to ?

Loved the unassisted steering (except when parking)

Much nicer than MK1's standard vs standard as well.

I had loads - mostly modified 2.0 16v

I bought another a few years ago, really nice with 170bhp.

It felt slow on the road, too little torque low down, although it was lovely to have such slim front pillars, I think my tastes have changed recently as I bought a Swift Sport with 123bhp and am enjoying it around the local lanes

Op here,

I have the original alloys, this is a 1990 car and ok... I'll be honest it feels slow but that is probably because of my toy box 🤣😂....
... But the smile on my face is priceless!

Wish it was that easy but they don't have tyres lol.

I will go to tyre shop tomorrow.
