After owning various Mustangs over the last 20 years, it has been a dream to one day own a Shelby GT500. Unfortunately a 60s one is out of my budget, so I decided on a 2011 or 2012 model. The iron block 5.4 supercharged engine was replaced in 2011 for a aluminium block, aswell as being lighter it produced more power, which 550bhp.

I started looking to import one in Febuary and finally found one in May located at a Dodge dealer In Virginia. After some emails and calls, I took the plunge and left a deposit and after transferring the money it was collected and shipped from New York at the end of June. I collected it from the docks last week and have now had the IVA test and MOT completed so I am just waiting for the paperwork to be completed so I can register it.

It's a 2011 in Sterling Grey with just one previous owner. It has the Performance Pack which gives you lower and stiffer suspension, different diff ratio, different spoiler, thinner cobra stripes and 20" rear wheels. Also optioned was the Electronics pack, which is touch screen sat nav, hard drive, and voice activated controls. It's one of only 89 Stering Grey with red stripes, so a rare beast!

Cant wait to finally get to drive it, sitting in the garage is driving me mad! Here's a few pics -

Very nice! I have had my 08 model for nearly 10 years now, still an occasion every time I drive it.

Enjoy yours, if you need any help or advice, drop me a message.

Fabulous looking beast and you can’t beat the sound of a blown V8. Shame they added the rather tacky plastic intake/vent on the hood, but a small detail and otherwise awesome smile

There is something about American muscle cars - I really like the Dodge Challenger though not the 797 HP Red Eye at £100k+ :-0

Thanks guys. The wait to drive it is unbearable! I drove it to the MOT station which is only just over 1 mile in a built up area, so no oppurtunity to see what 550bhp feels like.

I've finally been able to send the paperwork off today to get it registered. Just hope the DVLA get on with it!

Congratulations mate, looks lovely.

THE SIZE OF THAT AIR FILTER. evil

You must get some drive by sound clips up sir (that way we can enjoy the whine and exhaust note).

Just a quick update, the V5 finally arrived today so I was able to take her out for the first time. I only did around 6 miles so I will post a more thorough review when I've done a few more miles. My initial impressions are wow! I suspect my fuel economy for the first few weeks will be single figures!

Congratulations- but SIX miles??
I’d have taken the car out for the rest of the evening, not SIX miles.

Bit of an update as I have now been driving the Shelby for a good few weeks and I'm now getting used to its characteristics. The power and torque is what the car is about, its mightily impressive in a straight line. Its surprisingly capable in the twisties aswell. It has the optional Performance Pack fitted which lowers and stiffens the suspension along with a different diff ratio.

I took it for a blast around the Peak Distrct last week and was great fun, especially listening to the supercharger whine bouncing off the walls and trees! I've taken it to a few shows along with the 67, they certainly get a lot of attention when in convoy!

Here's a few pics from the last few weeks
