We spend a bit of time over in Texas and this summer went up to Galveston and it seemed like every 2nd vehicle we saw on the island was a Jeep of some sort. We got back a couple of weeks ago and I gave up fighting the irrational desire to get one so here it is.

It's a 2004 Wrangler TJ Sport model. 4.0 litre straight 6 petrol engine, 5 speed manual 'box with only 13k on the clock. The first owner was gifted it for 20 years service with Jeep and did about 9k miles in the 1st year then went into storage and was rarely used. I suspect my 400 mile drive home in it was the longest journey it has been on.

Anyhow... so far.. I luv it smile

That's a bit of a fun vehicle, with lot looks like some costly additions, too...

Aye, it's on the to-do list.

The lack of horrendous depreciation was one of the sensible aspects of getting a daft car.

Driving on the road.. hmmmm. It's getting easier biggrin

I bought the Jeep in standard form without ever seeing it or ever having driven one. I had the modifications, lift, suspension changes, mega tyres etc all carried out before flying down to collect it so there was no real Get-Out-Of-Jail card to play if I didn't like it but thankfully as soon as I saw it I thought it looked ace.

However... after about 500 yards of driving away from the dealer I could have pulled over, put my head in my hands and accepted an offer of a couple of £k less than I'd just paid just to get out of jail. It felt like I was driving a sailing boat. There seemed to be a total disconnect between the steering wheel and the wheels. It felt like it was going to topple over on the straight bits of road, never mind the bends. I've never sat on a jelly but if I ever do I think it would feel similar. It had a really good radio tho.

Thankfully it all got better fairly quickly when I took a chill pill and just went with the flow. I've driven it every day in the week I've owned it after the 400 mile journey home and have got used to how it handles and it's fine. I wouldn't want a long commute in it every day but for a splash of fun it's fab. It also seems to get some positive reactions which is nice. There's only been one occasion where I've almost ended up on my ass failing to get my leg up high enough to get in it and thankfully I don't think anyone saw it.

I've got things in the garage that go fast some things that go very fast indeed. It's really enjoyable to have something that's a lot of fun and brings a lot of smiles at a more sedate pace. So far... big Thumbs Up from me biggrin

Fancied a Wrangler for ages. See loads of them out here, the Gladiator has just been released but yet to see one in the wild. The Unlimited won SUV of the year I think.

It's the kind of car you could keep forever which appeals to me, even more lego than a Defender and a bit different on UK roads.

Love the Wrangler.

Did the Rubicon Trail in one, paid for by Jeep UK.

I am/was a massive Landy fan due to my dad having them when I was a kid, and have had a couple myself.

Watching a lot of Dirt Every Day, the current prices of defenders, and reliability woes and associated cost keep pushing me towards these.

Keep us us to date, it might save me some money hehe

This was the first pic the Dealer sent me of the car in its original state with standard ride height. The roof was also well past its best.

This was just after the new roof was fitted

This was it after the lift kit was fitted and the side runners and just before the 6 inch fenders were being done.

This was it lifted and with the bumper extensions

The first pic I was sent with the larger tyres

I've got a light bar to fit and will change the side graphics from silver to matt black but it's almost there. I'm keen to see it with the roof down as well... if the rain ever stops.

Signs of a company making too much cash!!

Nice car though, I've considered the 4-door as a family hack, prices seem to rise to cover whatever you spend on them....

Lots of these here, have an itch to have one as second car (mainly as my 2 year old would absolutely love it the once a month I would drive it).

In reality it would sit unused and cause earache off the wife!

Gratuitous shot of me piloting a friends (he was taking the photo)

Based on looking out of the window today in the Central Belt; I think you've missed it - it was in March.

But don't worry, it's going to get warmer this week apparently, which means warm and wet, which means steamed up windows on the soft top.

Really great cars. I drove one for a year with no roof in Dubai and loved it! (took the hardtop off and just left it off, no soft top!). My friend still has it and off roads quite a lot.

I would love another over here in the UK. Have fun!

That looks awesome. I SO much want to do that but being a wuss it will never happen. In saying that, it felt a bit like that on the straight bits of tarmac at first smile

really do like these - however they're too pricey for a 3rd ca (which is great for people who do buy as depreciation seems to be even slower than their acceleration!)
