A mysterious moderator decided that my 'Talk me out of buying an X5 4.8is' was buying forum content - where it will no doubt die. The thread rapidly developed into an account of that of an X5 48is owner (me) and my abhorrent and ill-informed decision to purchase the first one I could find having had the mist-of-must-havedness descend upon me.

The original thread is here https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... - and I'm documenting as I go the trials and challenges of ownership and simply getting this monster of a truck back into a reasonable condition and everything working. Fingers crossed, despite my haste - I think and hope I actually found a good starter kit.

Stay tuned for dish-water dull updates on resolving the SLS issue, panoramic roof failure, onboard entertainment upgrade, and general round-the-clock maintenance that is required by only the most dedicated or anyone who has similarly taken leave of their sense and bought one / owns one.

Interested to know what the general opinion of these X5's are - the 4.8's of which were only until recently really known to me. Is this model just a snotty, grunting, Oyster Bay guzzling version of the soccer moms car we all know - or does it garner some appreciation from the Gassing Station genteel?

I'm a very big fan of them...but you already know that! smile

I absolutely love the colour combo of yours and the 4.8 V8 engine is the most favourite engine that I've had. smokin

Enjoy it. thumbup
