was on the lookout for a cheap car to do the tip runs etc....
ended up speaking to a mate who was going to scrap his zafira due to a noisey grumbling gearbox. its a petrol 1.8 plan is to run until either gearbox or mot expires see where we are
so ive ended up taking it on for £150 as I know the last 7 years of the car done around 80 miles in it so far its boaty, bland, noisey just perfect for tip runs and the like
mot is till feb 2020 its done 92k miles and has had the following work done
4 new tyres
brakes all round
shocks & springs
bottom arms
cat back exhaust
only a few pictures at present from my mates house before I picked it up
there'll be a few more pictures tomorrow loaded up for a couple of tip runs

It's a 03 reg. It's had a lot of cavity wax around the front subframe to try keep rot to a minimum. Best guess is the diff bearings are noisey. There is a gearbox specialist very local but the car has to earn its keep first
The car stays as it is. The only change will be the addition of the spare wheel (currently in my mates shed) and needs a radio as he took his fancy one out but left me a connects 2 kit
Even if it lasts a few weeks. My thought is scrap value can't be too far off what I've paid for it. Was considering renting a van but for what I've paid I'm not worrying about damage and getting it back on time

I can assure you it won't be 'maxed out' who in there right mind would want to do that 😂
Back seats out will be a possibility when needed although we have two kids so when we head to the woods with dirty bikes etc.. It'll be handy for that.
The plan is run until something gives. Then assess and repair if desired. The gearbox is quiet until you lift off then there is a whirling, clicking on the over run.
Just doing a tip run now. My other car is a aygo and whilst I don't particular care for the car it's just too small whilst we doing some clearing out and decorating.

Yes that's the plan although I'm disappointed with the boot space with rear seats down and middle folded up and moved as forward as possible. Managed to get two runs in today just general household rubbish. Next one will be rubble out of the back garden.
Our family on both sides is quite big and there is many a time where three cars would be needed for the day trips out and stuff. So it'll no doubt get used for that aswell so we can get away with two
I think it'll become a 'spare' car that is borrowed as and when needed.
For the moment. It does its job quietly (mostly)
For the few drives I've had could do with a longer 5th gear or even a 6th to get the revs down when on motorway but not enough to make me pull the box out and fix it

My friend said similar about his bike. Same answer as I gave to him. If your local to Manchester, suitably insure & it's free then come and use it. My dad had one (the shape after this IIRC). Easily the most practical car he’s ever owned and was used by everybody for everything - school run, tip run, airport run. The inside was very plasticky but very robust. Seats reminded me of VW in terms of firmness, and Ive always been a fan of Vauxhall engines in terms of smoothness. It started having niggly little electric faults after about 7 years and he fancied a change so he’s got a Tiguan now which is the same size but nowhere near as spacious.

that's the plan for this tbh. it will be used by everyone for everything. I agree about the inside being cheap but I imagine its built to withstand family abuse & be cheap to repair if it gets damaged. the 1.8 seems to have adequate power, it is a noisey bugger on the motorway thoughwell again it came in use. its surprising how much you use it when its there. two more tip runs done and cleared out some of my unit aswell.

view of cockpit not much to look at & he throw a snap on seat cover in for free aswell. no radio as it was removed but I have a cheapy to fit just need to dig out aerial adaptor and we're good to go

im going to check the gear oil level next week. and top up if required 100% not going to fix the problem but itll give me something to do after the next couple of tip runs next weekend
although its a big unit. im quite disappointed with loading capacity. admittedly ive not had a mess with seating arrangements so ill see what can be done to create more space. if its not to much work ill look into removing middle row of seats and use it as a van
