Hi guys,

Recently my neighbour was selling his daughters Mk1 Audi TT Coupe for less than WBAC estimate. It's an 05 plate 180 2wd version with just under 75k on the clock. Went round to have a look with the intention of adding it to the fleet but my mum had a ride in it and loved it - so she gazumped me! It's in black with cream leather and is in really good shape for its age.

Took it for a short drive tonight and it feels solid as a rock. Picks up well when it comes on boost - plenty fast enough to keep my mum entertained! Forgot to rake pics of the interior but the leather is clean and unmarked. All lights and switches work, no rubbing off of the decals etc. Can't really complain for £1500.

It needs a few things doing over the next couple of weeks, current list is:
- Cambelt, waterpump and tensioner
- Get oil pickup inspected
- Get aircon regassed as it blows hot (hopefully this fixes it)
- Source some new center caps for the alloys
- Figure out why boot wont open on key fob button press.

Mum aims to keep it long term and won't be putting many miles on it. Will keep on top of maintenance and keep it looking tidy - and enjoy it.

If anyone has recommendations for a good Audi specialist in South Manchester I am all ears!

Luke.

Agreed!

Figured out the key fob opening the boot too - need to hold rather than push - stupid me.

The boot latch is adjustable for tightness - if they really struggle to open, slackening it a little can ease this. Of course, do it too much and it can come loose, or it'll leak around the seal. If it's popping free as it is, best left.

One of the best upgrades I did on mine was replace the squashy, soft 16" wheel and tyre combination for 18s. Combined with quality tyres as these are very tyre-sensitive. 18s still have enough sidewall to be useable and not crashy.

Thats a bargain, I bought a ropey one for more than that !

People slag them off but I have fond memories of mine even though its wasn't a very good one, no they arent the last word in driving dynamics but need to see them as a sporty Golf alternative not a Lotus Elise competitor. They feel so cost to be in, heightened by the nuclear powered heated seats this time of year.

Lovely, and a bit of a design classic for me.

Always toyed with the idea of a roadster, just to have for when the weather is nice. Though I would need to find one with cruise control, unless it can be retro-fitted?

Not south Manchester, but we use Volksmaster in Oldham for the missus’ Audi. They seem to do a decent job and are reasonably priced.

Can be retrofitted for about £60 with oem parts. Then just needs coding in

Any idea what bit's I'd need? Mum will never use cruise but I'd quite like it on the rare occasions I take it for a longer drive.

Been bumbling along in this for the past week as other main car in for some work. Shed motoring and loving it.

Was back in a Clio 200 today and that felt like an empty bag of crisps in comparison. Very cheap! So that is going.

IN for some service items and maintenance this week so will be interesting to see the cost difference vs the clio. Might change my mind about owning an old cheap German car!

Surely what the clio lacks in fit and finish it makes up in handling ?

yes

One of the best bits of car design in recent years.

1.5k for TT is a bargain. I'm sure you could show up to many places in this and people would accuse you of being 'flash'. hehe
