eBay Saab 9-5 aero hot estate
Discussion
Sold my RX300 because it was too juicy and started to look for a diesel and now I’ve bought a petrol Saab 9-5 aero hot estate. 2004.
Looks looked after mechanically but has a scratch on bodywork that needs sorting and a chip in windscreen.
Collecting tomorrow if anyone is interested as I’m sure they’ll be bits that need doing and a noobtune.

Good move, these are great cars and I love mine. 300hp is about the sweet spot so down pipe and remap. The torque and in gear acceleration makes these old things genuinely handy. Enjoy!
Looking forward to it and the price means I can do the tidying up that it needs quite easily. Fatball said:

i got about 23mpg out of mine so I guess your other car was worse. they are quick, not as quick as you think though.
I think it’s more about the mid range and lazy driving for me. The noobtune frees it up a little I’m told.
. I do agree it is not a nice engine to rev out like say my 3SGTE but it doesn't need it with the torque.Edited by BricktopST205 on Thursday 27th February 21:58
Lovely car! I've got two manual 9-5 Aero saloons, both silver. I took one of them straight to Noobtune Stage 3+ (300hp, 450nm) and 1000 miles later it went boom, so that's just a mild warning. Would hate to see another one go pop like mine did. Otherwise they're properly solid cars, enjoy it.

I think stage 1 will be fine, give it a few weeks and no doubt I’ll change my mind
Off on the train just after lunch to collect.Fatball said:

Great stuff, I'd definitely recommend a stage 1, nice increase in power and torque without stressing the engine! If you ever fancy going for big power, I've just rebuilt my engine so feel free to ask any questions.

Does it need the downpipes if its an Aero? I thought they had a bigger exhaust as standard and would go to 300hp with a remap.I had my non-Aero 2.0 Noobtuned from 175 to 220hp, but to go higher it needs bigger injectors and 3" downpipes

For a stage 1 map to 275bhp they don't need anything other than a remap. For more power, you need a 3.5bar FPR and a 3" downpipe. If you're looking to max it out, a bigger intercooler is recommended too to bring intake temps down.chazza114 said:

Basically that was the spec of mine, it pulled 306bhp and 480nm and ran it from 80k to 130k in that state and it never missed a beat, 4th gear was stunning it pulled hard from below 30mph all the way to 110mph (private road obviously). Overtaking was a breeze just squeeze and go...
3rd and 4th gear overtaking with that tune is just ridiculous honestly, tiny bit of lag and then wow away you go! 2nd gear however just results in me roasting my tyres unless I really slowly roll into it.Great purchase! These are huge fun and so easy to tune.
I bought a stock manual saloon back in 2015 and took it to stage 1, then the engine blew.
Then rebuilt with a b234 bottom end and fitted a 19t hybrid turbo and bigger injectors, ended up making 342 bhp and 388 lb ft on a good day.
Was seriously fast but something would always be up with it and each time I took it to Santa Pod it destroyed the gearbox.
Used to average 17 mpg (in similar driving my E55 does exactly the same), wonder if it was overfuelling, but on a run it could easily top 30 (E55 does 25), so these Saabs are VERY sensistive to throttle in terms of mpg variation.
The car is now running a GTX2867r and over 400 bhp.

As stated above stage 3 really is the sweet spot for these, any more and you need uprated injectors, clutch, air filter and more let alone suspension and brakes.
The best mod is Bilstein B12s, completely transformed the ride and handling and brought it up to date.
Main thing is you will NEVER get your money back so keep the mods cheap!

I'm almost certain they're Saab 18inch wheels, code ALU56 5-spoke split. Think they were manufactured/developed by BBS but I could be wrong.
Correct and correct.Picked these up for £250 then paid £160 to get them refurbed in gunmetal.
Brand new they're daft prices: https://nordicspeed.com/products/saab-alu-5-spoke-...
Home. First impressions are the guy selling is mid to late 60’s and kept it mechanically good but it needs a tidy up.
It’s had pads fairly recently but I think it needs discs and definitely needs wheels balancing.
It cannot be a standard tune due to the noise it makes and the way it goes through 2nd, 3rd and 4th, it’s an auto. The guy has no clue if it has been or not but can confirm it wasn’t in his ownership. I’ve sent the VIN to Karl at Noobtune to see if he’s had it in before but as I say, it can’t be standard so I’ll have to visit this with the insurance company when I find out for sure.
The remote key worked fine including after a stop for fuel but for some reason isn’t now I’m home, I’ll change the battery and see how it goes but I’ll need a second key anyway at some point.
